This is my 3rd Slow Burn novel by Maya Banks, and I must say I enjoyed it. This one, like the others in the series, was action packed and kept me engaged. Jenna ran away from the cult who’s been abusing her and using her for her healing powers since she was 4 years-old. She attempts to steal

Isaac’s vehicle during her getaway, and ends up saving his life after he was shot (by dangerous people trying to get to her). He shoots back since he is always packing as a Devereaux Security employee, and the two fall in love as they work to keep Jenna safe against seemingly insurmountable. I enjoy reading Ms. Banks and have read many of her novels. As in most of her books, we have a dominating physically imposing alpha male and a “tiny” damsel in distress. Also, one of my pet peeves with this author is her tendency to repeat herself, almost as a means to add to her word count. That tendency did not appear to be as prevalent in this novel.

Ouch! Another stinker! Another one that I can't (won't) finish.

This story is over-the-top to begin with, but made 10 times worse because the reader uses a Jack Webb voice the entire time. Jack Webb works well for Dragnet and the eras it was produced in, but... not in 2018 (well, unless it's pulp
