Former FBI Special Agent Sloane Burbank has seen her share of danger, but she never expected that danger to invade the lives of her family. Then her mother is viciously attacked in the posh Manhattan apartment her parents share and it quickly becomes clear that this is no ordinary robbery. Drawn in Blood is the sequel to Andrea Kane's earlier book [book:Twisted|2029076], although you can easily read and follow Drawn in blood without having read the first.

Andrea Kane creates an intricate plot centered on Chinese gangs and art theft. However, I didn't find any surprise twists or

unexpected turns in this one. The plot was mostly laid out for the reader from the start. Sloane Burbank, a former FBI agent, along with her boyfriend and FBI Special Agent Derek Parker, had to untangle the lies and secrets in order to find the truth. The story was in these main characters catching up to the bad guys.

Andrea Kane's writing is excellent. The characters are well fleshed out and each is unique. While I would have liked a few surprises along the way, the story is well-written and kept me interested.

Awesome book! Though I didn't like this one quite as well as Twisted, this one amazed me just the same.

The amount of research that Ms. Kane puts into her books is fantastic. It really helps make the story believable because it has such a ring of truth to it. This book delves into the world of art

theft. Not anything that I'm familiar with, nor anything that I've read about before. That in itself made this book stand out.

Sloane and Derek are interesting characters. Each strong in their own way, yet willing to bend each other's way to make a relationship work. I liked that there wasn't a whole bunch of drama centered around their relationship. Sometimes with the romantic/suspense books you get the whole break-up/get back together thing going. It wasn't necessary in this book, and I think it might have ruined it. They worked together to strengthen their relationship and to solve a case. I actually think it made their characters seem much more real.

The ending was perfect. Usually in books with characters that I enjoy, I find myself mad that the book is over and wanting more because I need something more from them. However, this book ended, then went to an epilogue that closed out the stories. While Kane could easily bring these characters back, she wouldn't have to. I really liked how the epilogue put the finishing touches on the whole story.

Overall, if this is your genre, you HAVE to read Kane. Whether it's this book, Twisted, or any others, she is a fantastic writer who has a new and devoted follower.

When ex-FBI agent Sloane Burbank's mother is attacked in an apparent home invasion, Sloane learns that the FBI--and her lover agent Derek Parker--are investigating a Chinese art theft ring. Sloan soon finds out that her father and his fellow art collectors have long-standing ties to the Chinese art

Sequel to Twisted by Andrea Kane, but not necessary to read it first. Sexy and suspenseful, but not as tension-filled as Twisted. Hope there are more books in this series--Sloane does get her job back with the FBI at the end.

As with Kane's earlier novels, this is a quick paced and well-researched romance thriller.

From my blog

I enjoy the main characters Sloan and Derek. In this one we follow the struggles of them balancing their relationship and busy career work life. I find them to be exciting, genuine and real, how I imagine FBI agents to be. Sloan has to protect her father, his friends and decide how much

to share with the man she loves, Derek.

Following this investigation was exciting, so many characters, friends, family involved in the storyline. Drawn in Blood is a a great fitting title. The saying 'blood is thicker than water' is taken to the ultimate and at times everyone is a suspect.

The Asian crime world was a thrilling ride. High powered affluent art lovers vs the rich art dealers vs the cruel art thieves, all made such an interesting read.

Andrea Kane is an author I will definitely read more by, hopefully more about Sloan and Derek. I love the relationship intertwined with the action paced crimes they have to solve. I don't think romance is the place for many thriller books AndreaK has executed it perfectly in my opinion. Great characters, action and the excitement of sitting on the edge of your sit to see how it all ends.

From The Book:
Former FBI Special Agent Sloane Burbank has seen her share of danger. She's faced down a serial killer and survived life-threatening injuries . . . but she never expected that danger to invade the lives of her family. Then her mother is viciously attacked in the posh Manhattan

apartment her parents share and it quickly becomes clear that this is no ordinary robbery. The thieves were too clever, too knowledgeable, and so obviously after something of her father's. But what could a respected art dealer have done to merit such violence? When a mysterious message is left for him, Sloane knows her father's in over his head. Determined to find out the truth, Sloane discovers a deadly secret buried in his past that has made him the target of a power-hungry mobster with a lethal agenda and nothing to lose. Sloane is desperate to save her father, but to do so she must hold on to secrets of her own—especially from FBI Special Agent Derek Parker, the man she has grown to love deeply. She knows she must tell him everything, but how can she betray her father's confidence? Can a couple who's faced so much survive this ultimate test of trust? Will they survive at all?

My Thoughts:
This story line continues from the book before it...[Twisted]…but it isn’t necessary to read it first to understand what is happening. I like Andrea Kane’s writing style. She manages to throw in a twist or a turn just when you think you have it all figured out. Sloane and Derek have proven to be interesting and complex characters in both this book and the first book. The way they work together gives them a greater feeling of reality. [Drawn in Blood] is a fantastic story of love, hate, life, lust, and motive. This is a story you will hate to see end.
