Description

Fiction. Romance. Historical Fiction. HTML: Bertrice Small's breathless Border Chronicles continue as a mysterious nobleman and his bartered bride untangle a plot of illicit seduction and dangerous betrayal.... Called the handsomest man in the borders, Angus Ferguson, Earl of Duin, avoids political intrigues in order to keep his small clan safe. Now, in exchange for a piece of land he has long coveted, he has wed the homely daughter of the laird of Rath, Annabella Baird, whose tame demeanor hides a wildcat. Mini Book Review: Not my favorite of hers, but still an enjoyable read. Lots of steamy scenes between a married couple which is a nice change of pace for a historical romance. There was just something missing in this one like she was sorta bored with the whole thing. The characters are intriguing,

its historically accurate and well its set in Scotland so that is always a bonus. Its just the story that fell a little flat, almost like she was giving a play by play of what was going on, instead of telling a tale. I think it would have worked much better as a short story. I guess I just expect much better from Bertrice who was always my go to girl for a story that I could lose myself in. And yes, even-though was disappointed, I will still buy her next book If you have never read her before I would suggest picking up A Moment in Time or Skye O' Malley, now those were outstanding tales!

Ferguson, to add a parcel of land to her dower if the Earl will take her for his wife.

After the ceremony, the two newlyweds work at becoming friends which brings their passions to a head and leads to adventures for both during these turbulent times in Scotland.

I liked the main characters but story and the secondary characters were a bit same old, same old, however, the steamy love scenes will always keep me coming back for more.

I liked this historical romance although it started out slow with lots of details and I really got tired of hearing that heroine was plain. Action picked up midway and was heavy with political intrigue. Handsome earl Angus is given plain Annabella to marry with a dower of some land he wants.
