Justice begins with a woman dying, two young runaways being the only witnesses, and an unexpected conclusion to a rape trial. Jess is a young, hard-working lawyer that is moving up in the ranks of the law firm where she works as she has just won a high profile case. But instead of celebrating Jess
Show More
is trying to figure out why the prosecution's main witness recanted her story on the stand. With the help of her ex-boyfriend, Mark Ryan, Jess begins to investigate more into the case that she has just won. But then an attack is made on her life and it is time to figure out who is trying to kill her and why....could it be from the past that she is still trying to hide from??

This is what romantic suspense is supposed to be! From the very beginning, I was pulled into the story and the characters' lives. I liked that the two main characters, Jess and Mark, had a history with each other but each of them thought that their past relationship was completely over. It had me interested from the very beginning to see how everything would work out between them. The mystery aspect of the story was really good and helped to pull me into the book. I liked that the author was able to tie the storyline from Jess' past into the storyline with her current case. It really made me wonder who was out to kill her and kept me on my toes. The suspense kept me reading this book late into the night and I just didn't want to set it down. And I didn't see the ending coming from a mile away...I was totally surprised. All of this added up to a very enjoyable read for me and I'm looking forward to reading more by this author. Recommended to fans of romantic suspense and romance in general.

Bottom Line: A fun read that kept me guessing the entire time!

I’ve never read anything by Karen Robards before, and while I usually get embarrassed by gratuitous romance novels, I only blushed a couple of times while reading her newest thriller, Justice.

Although I didn’t think the characters or the plot were the most believable, I did find Jess and Mark
Show More
to be likable and I was hoping all would work out well for our heroine and her buff bodyguard.

The story was pretty intriguing and it was set to a good, page-turning pace. A nice, easy, enjoyable read.

When you're in witness protection, you're really not supposed to get your face splashed across the national news.

After a dramatic trial victory puts her smack in the spotlight, criminal attorney Jessica Ford's hidden past seems to be coming back to haunt her, and staying alive to see her future
Show More
means putting her life in the hands of her ex, Secret Service agent Mark Ryan. But is it Jessica's past that's put her in the crosshairs? Or her present...

A convoluted plot involving runaways, the death of the First Lady, and murder somehow manages to hang together and even be fairly readable. A few too many elements, but it kept me turning pages.

God that was painful. I've never had to drag myself thru one of Ms. Robards' books like that before. I don't know what happened, but the heroine Jess seemed to morph into this uber-bitchy chick who didn't give a damn about anyone or anything but her career. There was no charm to her; nothing
Show More
sympathetic about her at all. I kept trying to put myself in her place and think how I would feel in her situation, but I just couldn't manage it. I didn't care that her feelings got hurt by the hero, I didn't care that someone could be out to kill her, and I certainly didn't give a fig about her career. Anyway, not one of Ms. Robards best efforts, that's for sure.

This is an edge-of-your-seat, keep-you-up-all-night, you-won't-want-to-walk-alone-in-a-dark-alley thriller!! Karen Robards novel is gripping, thrilling, and just too good to put down. With plot twists every turn, Robards intricately weaves several mysteries and murders into one cleverly organized

story which will leave you engrossed trying to figure out who-did-it until the very end!

This is part of the Jessica Ford series, and both Jessica, and her hunky secret-service body guard Mark are extremely likable clever characters. With humor, grace, love, romance, murder, betrayal, and suspense, this book is a must read!

Annnd done! That didn't take long at all! I enjoyed this one but Pursuit probably didn't need a sequel, especially given the nice happy ending it had; which was squashed once this book started. Oh well, I was happy to be reading about Mark and Jess again, and I kind of hope that there will be

another book.

Did not enjoy this #2 novel as much as I did #1 Pursuit which read a while back. The book leads off with a murder witnessed by two runaway girls. It then jumps to a trial continued from the first book. Jessica, criminal attorney has been in witness protection program since the witness to First

Review
A solid romantic suspense but not as thrilling as it could have been.

This is the 2nd book in the series and while the plot is unrelated to book 1, there is a lot of backstory to Jess and Mark's relationship that might be confusing to those who have not read the first installment.

The chemistry between Mark and Jess is greatly improved from book #1 and their banter is entertaining. Mark's attempts at getting back into Jess's good graces are endearing but his characterization as a man-slut is disappointing. There is nothing wrong with a sexually experienced hero but is it necessary to throw his past conquests in the reader's, not to mention the heroine's, face.

While Jess's reservations about loving Mark are understandable considering his past behavior, her constant hot/cold vibes become frustrating after a while. Also, her obsession with her career makes her less likeable than in the first book and she takes some annoying and unnecessary risks given that someone is out to kill her.

The writing flows and the pacing is good but it takes too long for the individual plot threads to come together. There are few clues to follow toward the conclusion and the identity of the villain is quite surprising as a result, although the motive is sufficiently warped to be interesting and the single page final chapter/epilogue definitely makes you think.

In general, the book is entertaining and if Robards wrote another, I would definitely read it.
