I wasn't hugely impressed with this book -- the plot seemed a bit improbable, even for a chick lit book. Still, it was a fast, fun read.

After reading Must Love Mistletoe I knew I would have to read the follow-up, Not Another New Year's.

Ridgway's latest follows the story of Tanner Hart (a secondary character first introduced in Must Love Mistletoe) and Hannah Davis.

Tanner's a jaded ex-Secret Service agent who's career took a
Show More
downhill slide during the same assassination attempt that took his buddy Finn's eye. He's gone back home to Coronado, California to try to get his life back together and to help his brother Troy run the bar he owns.

Hannah's a school teacher who's recently had one of the worst experiences any woman could have--her fiance married another woman, and forgot to tell Hannah. To make things worse, he had the audacity to die while in Iraq, and it's only after his death that his secret is revealed. She's come to Coronado for vindication, but instead, she finds something else entirely.

Sparks fly between Hannah and Tanner from the moment she walks into the Hart brothers' bar on New Year's Eve. Tanner takes a very drunk Hannah back to his place, but passes out before any fireworks really begin. However, she doesn't remember that--the last thing she can recall is being half naked on Tanner's couch. Tanner, of course, uses this to his advantage and tells Hannah that yes, they'd had sex and that it had been explosive (and of course, the truth eventually comes out).

Over the course of the story, we start to find out just why Hannah's in Coronado--she's looking for the woman her fiance married, to confront her and to finally, well, get some vindication. Meanwhile, Tanner has his own agenda--he's been asked to "take care of" Hannah during her stay in Coronado by his former Secret Service boss (who also happens to be Hannah's uncle), although Hannah just thinks her uncle asked Tanner to be her tour guide.

Ridgway also has another good romantic subplot between Tanner's brother, Troy, and Desiree, a pampered daughter of a Middle-Eastern king and an American model. The fact that Desiree's partially responsible for Tanner's fall from Secret Service grace (she'd kissed him inside the building while outside of it her father was almost assassinated), complicates matters. Troy resents her, but he also can't help but want her. And Desiree only seems to have everything, which Troy begins to realize.

When the same organization that attempted to kill Desiree's father decides to target another member of the royal family, Hannah becomes a target due to an unfortunate likeness to Desiree. Both brothers rush to save the women they love, and of course, the bad guys don't get away.

So far, this is the second book of Ridgway's that I've read, and I'm convinced I need to read more of them. Her characters are real, the writing's good, and she makes me laugh out loud. The fact that she seems to enjoy including several hot sex scenes doesn't hurt, either. Overall, I have to say that Not Another New Year's was a great, fast read, and even better than Must Love Mistletoe. Anyone who is a fan of romantic comedy should read this one.

This is the first book I’ve read by Christie Ridgway…

I LOVED it!!!! It’s the second book in her Holiday Duet Book Series. I’m thinking I’m going to have to go back and read the first one now.

Since this is the second book in the series, I can definitely say that you don’t have to read
Show More
the first, to know what’s going on. I didn’t feel lost at all.

The book was MORE than I expected. There is also a little suspense thrown in. That only makes it a little better, if that is even possible.

It’s a little heated romance book. Okay, it’s a really heated romance book. You will definitely need to have a cold shower, just to be able to go to sleep.

If Mrs. Ridgway’s first Duet book is anything like this, she definitely has a new fan…..

A very enjoyable story! Humor, romance, mystery. Loved the prickly secondary romance, too.

3.5 stars

In this second contemporary romance set on Coronado Island we delve into Tanner's life nearly a year after the tragic events of an assassination attempt foiled by the Secret Service. Unlike Finn, the male lead of the previous book, Tanner's role in the event was almost a comedy of errors

which continues when wholesome school teacher, Hannah Davis lands in his lap on New Year's Eve. While the two dance around each other, Tanner's brother, Troy, and Desiree, the woman who stole Tanner's Secret Service career from him, start a tango of their own as well.

The chemistry of both couples in this book was great as were the bedroom scenes. The attitudes and reactions and feelings of all four players were believable. And the end was satisfyingly nail-biting, though there is no "ending" with Troy and Desiree - perhaps they will make up book 3? It was nice to get a glimpse of Finn and Bailey and see a bit of how they were progressing from where book 1 left off.

I would have given this book 4 stars, but I'm taking away 1/2 because there were some egregious formatting errors in the Kindle edition. Most compound words were split into two words and there were many times where there were hard returns in the middle of sentences. I do wish publishers took greater care in their ebook formatting, especially when they are charging the same amount as the print versions.

This story started out okay and I did finish but it was so full of useless details, characters thoughts and not a lot of action. Eventually I started skimming all but dialog and never warmed up to the characters. Hannah is on vacation and on New Years Eve decides to be radical when she meets

ex-Secret Service agent Tanner.

This is the second in the Holiday Duet series. This is a well written romance that is an enjoyable afternoon read.
