Dear Avon Books, Where are my heroes? Whenever I'm reading a book by one of my favorite authors I find I'm falling for the wrong guy -- not the hero, but the other man -- and what I really want is for him to have his own story. Like Jake Linley, from Someone to Watch Over Me by Lisa Kleypas...that doctor could sit by my bedside if I ever got sick. And Ned Blydon in Splendid by Julia Quinn...he makes me want to learn to waltz! I never thought living in a drafty castle would be much fun until Simon of Ravenswood in Master of Desire by Kinley MacGregor came along. Anyway, I just wanted to let you know that these are my men -- when do they get their stories? Sincerely, A Romance Fan Some books are so special that there is more than one hero to love, but only a single story is told. So if you find yourself asking, "Where is my hero?" you'll discover the answer right here in this delicious collection by New York Times bestseller Lisa Kleypas, New York Times bestseller Julia Quinn and USA Today bestseller Kinley MacGregor.… (more)

Where's My Hero? is a collection of three short stories, one from each of the authors, but even though they were much shorter than their normal books, I didn't feel cheated like I normally do while reading an anthology. Instead, I was left with the same, warm and fuzzy feeling after reading the h/h fall in love and have their HEA--- no disappointments or feeling like their story had been cut short. That in itself is saying a lot, since if you ask most people, the one downside to an anthology is the rushed feeling you usually get from it. But not with this one-- it was perfect, just like any of the authors' other books.
I laughed, I sighed, and I'll admit it, I came pretty close to tearing up more than a few times while reading Jake (Against the Odds), Simon (Midsummer's Knight), and Ned's (A Tale of Two Sisters) books. Only great books do that to me, and this was easily one of the best I've read in a while from this genre-- it just reminded me yet again that even though it's fun to find new authors, and enjoy their books, sometimes you have to return to the beginning. And if these three authors aren't some of the great 'beginning' authors for romance, I don't know who deserves the title!
5 STARS! Touching, charming, and spectacular, Where's My Hero? is the perfect book to read any time, especially if you've been having a bad book lull, unsure of what to read next-- pick up this book, sit down and get comfortable, and be prepared to pull and all-nighter, because once you get started, you won't want to put it down until it's through! And even then, I'm sure it will only be long enough to go and find their other books (whether you've read them all and they're shelved nicely on your keeper shelf, or you're a newbie and you have to rush out to the library). After reading WMH?, I'm hungry for more LK, JQ, and KM (or SK as she's known as in the paranormal section)-- I'm off to do a bit of re-reading today! :D
LISA KLEYPAS
The only problem with most novellas is that the story isn't long enough. The same is so with this story. I would have liked for it to be about twice as long. It is nice however to finally get Dr. Jake Lindly's story. He has appeared in a number of books and I have
Lydia Craven was a little bit of a surprise. First she is a genus at math and science second she is a very practical woman. Overall a perfect fit for Dr. Lindly. She will understand his having to go out at all hours on emergencies. She might also be able to help him with is work. Plus she has a family to keep both of them firmly grounded and among the living.
I was also delight to get a glimpse of Derek and Sara Craven's life. I loved their story and after reading this I am going to have to go back and re-read that book. Ms. Kleypas has once again prove that she can tell a wonderful story even when it is too short.
MIDSUMMER KNIGHT
KINLEY MACGREGOR
I read a review that this is the beginning of the series Brotherhood of the Sword. That can't be true since Draven and Sin are already married in this book. Anyway this is a very good story and while it would have been nice to have had it a little longer it is close to perfect as is. I am not normally a fan of medieval story but this one is short enough and well written enough to keep from thinking about how people could live in such primitive conditions. They, of course, didn't consider the conditions primitive but it makes you wonder. Simon is a wonderful hero. In fact, is what all heroes should be, brave, loyal, fearless, and compassionate. He is also a rarity as he can read and write which was not common during this period. Since he is the second son and base born he has no land or titles and therefore has no way to support a wife. He falls in love though and of coarse Ms. MacGregor finds a way for the couple to marry and live happily ever after. It isn't contrived either.
Kenna is a very progressive female for her time. She is willing to marry for alliances but would rather marry for love. Kenna is an even rare female for the time as she can also read and write. Which means she is intelligent as well as caring and compassionate. She is a loving individual that is the cousin to the king of Scotland and has money and titles that make her quite the catch. I like her simply because all of that didn't matter to her when she found the person that she loves.
While the story is short it is a full story. It never feels rushed. I will warn readers that you might want to keep tissues handy as the last few chapters and heart rending. Overall this a good enough story to make me curious about the rest of the series.
A TALE OF TWO SISTERS
JULIA QUINN
Thank heavens for Julia Quinn and her wonderful ability to write stories that can make you laugh out loud. This story is the perfect complement to follow Ms. MacGregor's story. The witty banter between Ned and Charlotte or Ned and his sister is outstanding. This story has an unusual twist to it and I loved it. Edward "Ned" Blydon is a wonderful man that desires to have a wonderful wife that he can love and cherish. It might seem at the beginning of the story that this won't happen but Ms. Quinn gives a nice love story with a happy ending. Charlotte Thornton is a witty and intelligent girl. She is quite honest and loyal although she can be a chatter box at times. She and Ned share many of the same interests and they seem to finish each others sentences from the first. Ms. Quinn even gets in a spicy love scene. It would have been nice to have a longer story however there is enough character building and quality time spent with the couple to establish a relationship. This is a great addition to the anthology. Ms. Quinn is a wonderful writer and that shines through in this story.
