Description: This colorful autobiography describes a woman's impassioned search for enlightenment in modern Japan. Satomi Myodo (1896-1978) was the bright, impetuous daughter of poor farmers. Full of deep spiritual longings, she rejected the traditional aspirations of "good wife and wise mother" instilled by her culture. After a reluctant early marriage and motherhood followed by abandonment, the loss of her child, and a bout with madness, Satomi-san broke with her unhappy past and followed her star with spunk and determination. -- From the Jacket
