When a little wiener dog named Dex is teased and taunted by other bigger animals, he desires to be big and strong. So he trains to become a hero for his town. When Dex is called to save a cat that has been the meanest to him, the cat realizes that he has been wrong in teasing Dex. After Dex rescues
This book is a good example of a fantasy because it involves characters that are not normally able to talk in real life. Dex and the rest of the animals talk and express emotions.
A teacher could use this book in a classroom to show kids that they can be heroes by expressing kindness and being helpful to those that are in need of help, even to those who are not kind to us. A teacher could explain that everyone can be a hero by the way they behave and act towards others.
The plot in this book contains all elements of literature. It contains a problem (Dex being small), and conflict (the other animals teasing Dex for his size), and a resolution (Dex saves the day and the other animals then show him respect).

A heartwarming story about a dog that wants to make a difference and he doesn't let his size get in the way. He works hard and enjoys the results of his hard work.

A story book and comic book combined, this book tells about the bravery of a little dog and unlikely hero. It captures of the attention of boys and girls both and children can relate to its commentary on being small and overlooked.

This is a little old for Jake right now, but Dex reminds us of our dachshund Scrappy. Dex is a bit of an underdog, who decides he's going to be a super dog. Very fun!

In my opinion the book “Superdog: The Heart of a Hero” is a humorous yet inspiring book for young students to read. While the main character is a dog, his feelings and characteristics are believable. Students who are small may feel ostracized from their peers and be able to relate to Dex.

“Being the size that he was, Dex was often overlooked.” While being left out is not a nice feeling, Dex shows perseverance to overcome a bullying situation. He uses his imagination to become superdog, a kind and helpful dog. This can inspire readers to have large dreams like Dex and teach them determination. Lastly, Dex makes situations happy, and funny, which will have students laughing the whole time. “He looked like a plump sausage sitting on four little meatballs.” The main message of this book is determination to achieve any dream you think of. The character trained to become a hero. He got a cape, and made himself into a hero. He was helping anyone and everyone he could.
