Shirley Hughes is a wonderful illustrator but her stories of Alfie and Annie Rose rank among our family favorites for young readers and story time. This volume has a trio of stories - Alfie ties his Noah's Ark story to an evening burst pipe and flood, Alfie goes to naughty Bernard's birthday party

with his blanket and helps his friend Minh, and gets a new pair of boots that don't feel quite right - all of which will grab the imagination of young children. We found that our children would create a bit of distance between themselves and the book whenever Bernard was scolded, but otherwise loved all of these - and other Alfie - stories. Show Less
