Molly Sullivan said that the new baby was a little star. She was no trouble at all and she was always smiling¿ so she became known as Star and no one remembered that her name was Oona. Star Sullivan just wanted everyone to be happy - her father to stop gambling, her mother not to work so hard, her brother to stay out of trouble, her sister to stop worrying about every little thing she ate. Then the Hale family moved in next door, and from the moment Star saw 23-year-old Laddy Hale, everything began to change - until Star was no longer the sweet, thoughtful girl everyone loved and no one worried about...

Indeed a quick read, but I feel Maeve Binchy could have done a lot better. Star was such a lovely kid, everybody loved her and thought she was a very nice girl who only wanted everyone around her to be well, and then suddenly we discover that she was just a pain and she had to stop worrying so much

I did not enjoy this book at all. It was a Quick Read and only took me an afternoon to get through it however, that to me was an afternoon I could have spent doing anything else. There did not seem much of a story line, the writing did not flow and the language was very simple. The story sees a

girl called Star change from being a loving, helpful, happy girl to a sad, difficult, manipulative girl. However, it was extremely bit-ty and the story did not make much sense. I was not interested or gripped by the book. The blurb suggested an exciting read, I was let down.

Very quick read, about the young girl Star Sullivan, and how she grows up quickly over the space of just a few short years.

A good early book by Maeve about the life of a young girl who spent her early years trying to fix all the problems of her family before realising that she didn't need to be the fixer and she would be loved anyway.
