Beautifully illustrated in paper collage, this book shows life-sized animals from very small to very large. Larger animals feature only part of the animal’s body, such as the head or the eye. Statistics are given for the featured animals, and a one paragraph description of each animal is given at

the end of the book.

This a very fun book that students will love. There are great pictures in the book that show the actual size of an insect, fish, animal, etc. that the book features, hince the name "Actual Size." There are many different animals shown throughout the book and it gives a brief description of each of
Show More
them. It also gives the description with full size pictures of the animal again, at the end of the book. The content is great and this book can be used with measurement or observation lessons. The reading level for this book would be K-4.

Interesting concept that allows kids to learn about the animals that are in our world. There is further information about the animals in the books towards to end of the book that solves a lot of the questions that kids have.

So cool!!! Though, some of the comparisons freaked me out, especially the great white (of course) and the salt water crocodile. I held the illustration up to my leg, and with my foot in it's mouth, the end of its snout reached above my knee. Sofi? Rib cage. TERRIFYING>

I want to buy this book! It is so neat how some pages unfold to show the actual size of animals. This should be in every classroom. I can only imagine how many uses there are for this book, studying math and animals are only a few. If you have not read this book, go check it out.

'Actual Size' really give children an insight of creatures that they can not come close to. It will be a good book for science projects, measuring one thing to the next, and teaching children how to observe. I love the colors and the lines used to create pictures.

Very cute book. This book gives you a very exact idea about how big things or animals in the world really are. For example the one with the alligator, is huge.

This would be great to use during an animal unit, so children can visualze how big or small these animals really are.

an accessible way to see how you measure up to animals around the world! a fun, interactive picture book with delightful cut-paper imagery

Wonderful informational book, with amazing illustrations made of cut and torn paper. This book brings life sized fun to life sized animals.

Based on the title, this book is pretty straightforward. It takes shows the real size of both small and large animals and of certain body parts like tongues and eyes. The pictures are great. The biggest strength of this book is how it puts size in perspective.

I could see kids loving to learn these somewhat random facts to try and impress others. I think kids would like touching the pictures to continue to compare and experience how big and small these animals are. My only wish for this book was for it to have textures.

Kids will return again and again to marvel at the “actual size” of these amazing animals or their parts – feet, mouths, necks, tongues, and more! The cut paper collage illustrations add a texture that brings the images to life.

Ever wondered just how big the eye of a giant squid is? This creative informational book will share with you the actual sizes of many different creatures, both large and small. You will find the tongue of a giant anteater, the jaws of the saltwater crocodile, and the foot of an African elephant.

Steve Jenkins did a great job illustarting different animals and their actual size. This would be an awesome book to read for a science class or whenever the students are learning about annimals. More information about the animals are provided at the end of the book.

This book is an informational book about the variety of sizes of animals. In the book, there are many different kinds of animals from butterflies to a giant Gippsland earthworm. On every page of the book, it shows the actual size of an animal or part of the animal. In one instance, when discussing
Show More
a saltwater crocodile, the book's page actually unfolds to show the size of the crocodile's mouth.
I really enjoyed this book and I believe most children would too. Each page is dedicated to a newly introduced animal and shows its actual size. This was very entertaining because if you've never saw a particular animal you could imagine how big or small it would be based on the book. I really liked that the book gives these interesting facts and the pictures were great. I found this book to be very enjoyable to read.
There are many extension ideas you can use this book for. The author has implemented the last couple of pages of the book as an area for more information. You could go to the library and find areas where some of the animals live. Another idea would be to introduce measurement (math) to the class and give the students strings that are a variety of lengths. At this point they could go around the classroom measuring a variety of objects. This would give them better insight as to what an inch, foot, or yard are like.

this is great learning book for kids, the eye on the third page is awesome! Everything in the book is actual size of the animal/bug/ or GREAT White shark tooth. Ii also gives some facts on each animal. I personally loved this book.

Steve Jenkins shows the actual size of animals in fold out pages and two page layouts that are impressive to look at. Each picture comes with the size and weight information of each animal listed. It almost feels like looking into the eyes of the animals.

The cut paper collage used in this book really makes an impact. Every page or two page spread shows objects at actual size. This is an impressive book. When I read this non-fiction book to my Pre K class, they were so excited they commented on every page. After reading it aloud, I let them browse
Show More
through it at their leisure. Several times as I glanced over throughout the day, the students would be placing their own small hands individually on top of a page, their minds absorbing the information shown and taking in the disparity in size.

This is one of the most amazing books that I've ever seen! Instead of just describing how large or small animals are or even just comparing them to each other, Steve Jenkins creates them (or pieces of them) in their actual size. Children and adults will be amazed! The book is large enough to make
Show More
for a fantastic read aloud, too.

This is an amazing, informative, fun book that I plan to use in science curriculum. Showing the actual size of animals--or parts--the book uses creative design to give a real sense of the scale of many of the world's most striking animals.

Highly Recommend this book! I found myself being amazed at how small or how large an animal is. Also, the book provided interesting facts about each animal in the back of it. It is a wonderful book for all ages!

This book shows children how big or small an actual animal is, like great whites teeth, a gorillas hand, an elephants foot, and many more. It also gives facts about the certain animal like the height and weight of the animals.

I loved reading books like this as a child and still till this day, I
Show More
enjoy looking at books like this one. I like them, because I will never be able to compare my hand to a real life gorillas hand, but in the book I can .

In the classroom, I would have the children pair up and trace each others hand on a piece of paper. We would then measure our hands with a ruler on the paper and write the length of our hand down below our traced hand on the paper. Then as a group, we could compare the lengths of our hands between the boys and girls hands by adding the boys lengths then the girls length. After we get the total of each, we would then do a graph.

This is a great book for children. This book shows actual size of different animal parts and the animal itself. For example it shows the exact size of Gippsland earth worm. This book is a great book to use in the classroom for children. It lets them get an idea of what things look like that they
Show More
may never get to experience.

This book has great illustrations and a great theme. It shows different animals, some that everyone knows, and others that are a little more mysterious, in their actual size. Obviously some of the animals like tigers and elephants, it's only a part of their bodies, but it's still great!
