This story is written in rhyme and the letters are very large. This style is appropriate for this book because it is aimed toward primary readers. The words are easy to see and children like the rhyming on each page.
The animals in this book are real animals and the book gives information about
Show More
their preparations for the winter. That is why this book is informational.

As life is the pond and in its surroundings is shown through rhyming words, seasons can be followed through colors and cycles, from spring to winter. Denise Fleming displays vivid colors contrasting with background exposing details as seasons and animals change.

This book is realistic fiction because it looks at a pond, which is not real, but has animals that would be typical for a pond. This book's setting is background, aside from being at a pond it does not specify where or at what time. This book was done with paints being applied with different

textures.

This book has wonderful illustrations that will capture a young child's attention and make him or her interested in nature. It is short, so young kids won't lose interest. It is good for teaching kids about nature, rhyming, and alliteration.

I really liked this book because it only had 4 or 5 words on a page and the words were fun! I also loved the way the words were not strait in a line but they showed the action of the words.

In the Small, Small Pond by Denise Fleming is about a child discovering many different creatures that live by the pond. The illustrations are full of vibrant colors and each page has a rhyme that goes with the pond animal followed by the animal actions. I think this book would be great for
Show More
pre-school and kindergarten. This will allow children to have fun with different words that sounds similar, but have the same meaning. I would have children sit in a circle and come up with different words that rhyme ( even if it's not a real word) , children would be able to practice different sounds.
