A little Inuit boy discovers there's room for himself and his baby sister on their mother's lap

Summary
Michael is on his mother's lap with all of his stuff. His baby sister wants in his Mother's lap as well. Michael wonders if there will be enough room on his Mother's lap for him, his stuff, and his sister.

Personal Reaction
This book is a good book for children that has a new baby in the
Show More
house. It shows that mom will always have enough room for all of her children in her lap and also in her heart. This book would be a good book to read if a child feels left out by a new baby in the house.

Classroom Extension Ideas
1. Have the students share some traditions they do with their mom, grandmother, or a close family member
2. Let the students draw how they see their families in their eyes.

Michael jumps in his mother's lap, the love between them warms the room, as "back and forth, back and forth, they rock.'' Michael gets his dolly, then his carved boat, a reindeer blanket and even his puppy; the small rocking chair is full. When baby cries his mother insists there's room for her
Show More
too, but Michael pouts and hides. All of them end up back in the chair, crowded but cozy and Michael says, "It feels good.'' This is a good story. I like the story line. I think that children take new siblings differently and it is a good way for them to learn that it is okay to have mixed emotions about the situation.
This book could be used to help young children learn and understand emotion. A teacher could read it to the students and have them write or draw a similar situation that they have been through.

On Mother's Lap is about a boy named Michael who loves to sit on his mother's lap. He brings his toys, puppy, and blanket to snuggle up with him and his mom. When his baby sister wants to on her lap with them, though, Michael says that there is not any room. However, when Mom gets them all wrapped
Show More
up in her lap, it is Michael's favorite place in the world.

This is a warm and touching story. Who doesn't like to snuggle up in their mom's lap during a cold winter day. It is also typical of children to not want to share their attention with younger siblings.

I would give this book to a student who was expecting a younger brother or sister, and was not exactly happy about it. This would show them that there will be enough attention to go around for everyone. They just have to learn how to share.

This book is about Micheal that wants to sit in his mother's lap with is puppy, boat, and blanket. Micheal's little brother wants to sit with his mother also, so micheal learns to share sitting on mother's lap togther is enjoyable.

When i was little had to learn that i had to share my mother with
Show More
everyone not just me. Then i learned that sharing bet you further in in life then not sharing at all.

Using this story in the classroom which could have the children sitting in a circle. Telling the children thar sharing is a great way of being a good person and being a good sport. Having each child in the classroom write about what would you share with someone and why!

On My Mother’s Lap was a story about a little boy named Michael who loved rocking in his mommy’s lap. He would get down for just a second to get a few of his favorite toys so they could be rocked by mommy too. Just then his baby sister woke up crying so Mother went to get her and said she wants
Show More
to be rocked too and Michael was jealous because he wanted to be rocked by his mommy. So Mommy said here everyone can rock on Mother’s lap.

I can relate to this story. I also loved to be rocked by my Mom. Also, today my son loves to crawl in my lap with all his toys , books and favorite blanket just to have me rock him and read. It is a great feeling being a Mom and knowing your children want to be loved and rocked by you!

In the classroom, I can ask the students to write a paper telling me a favorite time they have had with their Mother or the woman in their lives. I can also have the students draw a nice picture of them and their Mother’s or the woman in their lives. If they do not have a woman in their lives maybe someone they look up to.

On Mother's Lap is a great book about a little boy who just wants to sit on his mothers lap. But then he wants to sit on her lap with all his special things... Until his little baby sister wants to sit with them too. So they all sit and cuddle on mothers lap.

I think its a great family book. It
Show More
shows a mothers love for her children and a sons love for his mother. I always loved sitting on my grandpas lap when he sat in his big comfortable recliner chair. And this book reminds me of those times.

This book could be used in a classroom to teach children of the love that mothers have for their children and to teach them how it is okay to be a certain age and still want to sit and cuddle with mothers.

Michael is being rocked to sleep by his mother and decides some of his things need him. He gets off his mom’s lap and grabs his dolly, boat and blanket to be rocked with him. His younger brother begins to cry and needs to be rocked. Michael’s mother gets up to get his little brother but Michael
Show More
says there is no room. However, when his mother brings in his little brother Michael finds there is plenty of room on mother’s lap for everyone.

I could relate to this story because my brother would do the same thing to me when we were younger.

This book could be used in class if a student is going to have a new brother or sister, especially younger children, to help them understand that they will still be loved and are not being replaced. The teacher could also recommend the book to parents. The book could also be read to the children before Mother’s day. The children could write letters to their mothers about how much they love their super powers, like their always being room on mother’s lap.

Summary:
This book is about a boy named Michael who loves to sit on his mother's lap, while she rocks him in a rocking chair. Michael grabs all of his favorite items and places them in the rocking chair with him and his mother. When Michael's baby sister awakes, his mother grabs the baby and
Show More
continues rocking in the rocking chair. Michael gets upset and his mother reassures him that there is always room on her lap for both of them.

Personal Reaction:
I really love this book. It remains me of my experience, when I had my second child. My son who was four at the time, used to get upset about me holding his baby brother, so I had too I had to make room for them both.

Classroom Extension:
1. I would have each student create a collage containing items that reminds them of their mother/guardian.
2. I would have my students watercolor a picure of themselves and their mother doing something special together.

experience for him as well. I think is way for child to share with siblings.
