This book has great pictures and great rhyming words. The pictures are introduced and repeated throughout the story. The little boy talks about all of the things he needs at home, since he's not feeling well. He needs a pillow for his head, an extra blanket, tissue, his pet cat, puppets, and other

things. He has planned a fun-filled day at home with all of his favorite things, since he's not feeling well. The book shows the illustrations in a way that will allow listeners/students to participate with the reader. There are a number of rhyming words and a great deal of repetition. The book also has a surprise ending. There is no school that day!

Retelling: The little boy in this book does not feel well, and when you don't feel well, you need a few things to make you feel better. Read new words for things like "jigsaw puzzles" and "tissues" and then use pictures interspersed with words to read more fluently. By the end of the book, his

mother becomes suspicious. Is he really sick, or does he just want to stay home and play? Read the story to find out.

Thoughts and Feelings: I think we've all had days where our blankets are just a little too warm, and the weather outside is just a little too cold, and even though we love to go to school and meet friends and learn new things, we can't imagine it could be any better than being under a warm blanket on a cold day. I really enjoyed the rhyming and symbols in this book.

This book is about a boy who thinks that he is sick and cannot go to school. He lists everything he will need if he is sick, when he really is not. He cannot go to school because of the winter weather. This story really reminded me of a poem (Sick by Shel Silverstein)
