Dinosaur is a loud rambunctious young animal always looking to have contests to see who can be the loudest animal. He enjoys spending time at the library but on his way to the library he challenges those he meets to a roaring contest. Can anyone beat Dinosaur? We soon find out how hard it can be

for Dinosaur to use inside voices and sit still during story time at the library. Most young children will understand the difficulties in using quiet voices and will relate to Dinosaur as he navigates story time. Text is written in such a way that loudness is portrayed with either big (loud) or small (quiet) words. Through the use of color changes as well as size of print, the author and illustrator portray how much fun Dinosaur has being loud and winning the roaring contests. The implementation of page breaks in anticipation of who Dinosaur will compete with next gives the book a sense of excitement. Ultimately we discover that Dinosaur has what it takes to play with his friends and listen to a story in the library using his quiet voice. A quick, fun read “Dinosaur vs. the Library” will appeal to young children, especially those who have read other books starring Dinosaur. It’s predictable text allows children to easily follow along and the bright illustrations will appeal to young listeners and readers.

"Dinosaur vs. The Library" is a comical book that has a weak, simple message and a loose, and sparse plot. The dinosaur roars constantly. Roaring, along with other animal sounds, comprises most of the dialogue of this story. The only enjoyable part of this book is the fact that the illustrations

are strong enough to tell the story in an effective, consistent manner. The only thing that this book teaches readers is that there is a time and place for being loud.

Dinosaur is going to one of his favorite places: the library! On the way, he invites his friends--a lonesome turtle, a sad owl and more-- to roar along with him. But how will his roaring go over at the library? Has Dinosaur finally met his match in Storytime?

This book is a lot of fun for story time. I read it with a pre-k class visit and we practiced our outside and inside roars. They really enjoyed getting to be dinosaurs for a while.

Maybe the other books explain how the cow, chicks, etc. are friends with dinosaur?  I know I wouldn't like it if I were minding my own business and having a rowdy acquaintance come up and ROAR at me.  But hey, this isn't for me.  It's for kids who are more extroverted, who aren't wired to

be drawn to libraries, who have trouble mastering their 'inside roar.'  And for those kids, I think this would be effective.

This was a super cute book for library-themed storytime! It would have been perfect had I not lost my voice at the first ROAR. Oops.
