This is a wonderful book for any writer. It focuses on craft, such as the art of the sentence, the sounds of words, the art of observation, the practice of artistic productivity, and much more. When I began the opening sections on "Daily Writing" and "Gathering Words," they made me WANT to write

more and write better. The book is well-titled, because the thoughtful tone and exercises are like having a Mentor helping you. Instead of classifying writers as "beginning" or "experienced," Ms. Long wants everyone to aspire to be a "virtuoso" writer. I have read a lot of books on writing, and "The Writer's Portable Mentor" is the best one I've found so far. Highly recommended. Show Less
