The real appeal of the book for me, though, was Telgemeier’s stunning art. Her characters are drawn as expressive and lively, as though they’re capable of stepping off the page.

The book may be about Kristy's great idea, but it's a sheerly brilliant idea to translate the BSC books into graphic novels. As a friend and I were excitedly exclaiming, it's such a good sign to see that the juvenile female audience is finally getting some notice from the graphic novel/comics side
Show More
of the publishing industry (outside of manga imports!)

The story itself remains relatively unchanged, with all of the key plot points hit and the majority of the dialogue intact. The artwork is adorable, and Telgemeier really deserves kudos for her translation of prose to pictures.

I'm eager to see the series continue, although I'm unsure that I'll be picking them up for myself -- I read them all as they were being published the first time. But as gifts for younger cousins and the kids of friends? Oh, heck yeah. Right at the top of my list.

It is about Kristy Thomas and how she starts the baby-sitters club along with Mary-Anne Spier, Claudia Kishi, and Stacey Mcgill. It begins when Kristy watches her mom make call after call to find a baby-sitter for Kristy's little brother when Kristy and both her older brothers are busy. So she
Show More
starts the club and they all get into a big fight. In the end they all make-up and continue on with the club.

The Baby-Sitters Club is one of those series I really liked when I was a kid, so when I found out that some of the books would be re-released in graphic novel, I was pretty excited. Plus, I was already following Raina Telgemeier's comic 'Smile' online so I already loved her drawing style. The book
Show More
(and the other three) is very cute and any changes Raina made for the graphic novel just fit with it. I'd totally recommend it to kids or to adults who read them when they were kids.

This is a great new take on a classic series I enjoyed as a child. It updates the clothing and settings seamlessly while still providing a great story. The illustrations are very "cartoonish" but still fun, and may encourage kids to seek out the original novels plus numerous special editions which
Show More
probably will not be released in this format.

Stoneybrook Middle School student Kristy and her friends - shy, sweet Mary Anne, cool, artistic Claudia and newbie Stacey - form a club dedicated to promoting their baby-sitting services. The girls' friendships strengthen in the process and they help each other out during tough situations, like
Show More
Kristy's inability to handle the possibility that her mom might remarry.

This retelling of the popular series in graphic form brought back a lot of memories. I had fun spending time with the characters I was fond of growing up, and the hip illustrations added a whole new dimension to the story that I really liked. But I'm wondering what kind of experience readers who aren't at all familiar with the baby-sitters will have? The concept of a club centered on baby-sitting I think will still appeal to middle school aged girls today, and the drama that pervades the story certainly will; things like parents divorcing and remarrying and dealing with diabetes are just as applicable today as they were in the eighties and nineties, maybe even more so. That being said, I feel this book would be a much better read for girls in elementary (4th & 5th grade) and early middle school, rather than those in or getting ready for high school. The plot may lack the intensity that these readers are likely looking for, as the world Kristy and her inhabit is a fairly "safe" one, where everything turns out alright in the end. But there are younger girls out there who really need that kind of reassurance and will identify with and appreciate this book.

The first book of the Baby-Sitters Club series, Kristy’s Great Idea, reappears in graphic novel form! The novel introduces the 4 seventh grade girls, Kristy, Claudia, Mary, and Stacy, in the series and how they began their new babysitting business. The art is extremely clean and in black and
Show More
white. The story is not quite as in depth as the first making because of the form but it is still filled with art and text that express the emotion and action the novel has to offer. Personal problems, including their friendships and families, every young girl could relate to. This book, as well as the other Baby-Sitters Club books, are perfect editions in a 4-6 grade classroom. They could also be accompanied by the first Baby-Sitters club books before they came out in graphic novel.

After realizing the trouble parents go through to get sitter’s for their children, Kristy joins with her friends Mary-Ann, Claudia and Stacey to create a club that will solve this problem and hopefully give them more jobs. While starting their club, the girls also struggle with issues such as
Show More
parents remarrying, diabetes, and growing up. A graphic novel version of the first book in the Baby-sitters Club series, it brings new life to Ann M. Martin’s popular series. Raina Telgemeier’s simple black and white pictures tell the majority of the story. The action and expressions of the characters are incredibly descriptive. Third through sixth grade girls will love this book, regardless of their familiarity with the original version. Kristy’s Great Idea is recommended for elementary school libraries and the children’s section of public libraries.

The Babysitter's club kicks off with this novel, Kristy's great idea. Four friends begin a babysitting club where neighbors can call them to request babysitters. The girls care for many different neighborhood children, even some neighborhood dogs. Kristy's mom starts to date again and she even has
Show More
to babysit her mother's boyfriends two children. She has heard that they are terrible, but while she keeps them she finds out they aren't so bad after all.

This book is great for elementary and middle school. The girls will enjoy the adventures taken with the babysitters club.

In late elementary school, a teacher could divide the boys and girls up. The girls could be assigned this book and the boys assigned a goosebumps book. They would be divided in groups of four and as a group be assigned to keep a journal and everyday write what they would do if they were put in the same situation as the characters in the book. Then once the books are completely read, the groups will act out their favorite scheme in the book.

The Baby-Sitters Club was a favorite of mine as a child. This graphic novel tell the story of how the girls started the club and the adventures they have babysitting. The graphic novel allows the dialogue to be short and just like you would have a converstation. The illustrations lets the reader
Show More
see what is going on and the emotions the charachters are projecting through their faces. I think that this novel is a great way to get readers excited about a series. Those that struggle with reading would benefit from graphic novels because they are more interactive.

Kristy comes up with the great idea to create a babysitters club that people in the neighborhood can contact when they need someone to watch their kids. She invites her friends Claudia and Mary Anne, and Claudia invites Stacey. The club is successful and we’re taken through the beginning of the
Show More
club and some of the interesting and fun adventures they experience. This book is nostalgic for me as I read the original non-graphic series as a kid. It teaches lessons of friendship, honesty, openness, forgiveness and responsibility. Enjoyed the artwork and would recommend it for junior readers.

I remember growing up reading Baby-Sitters Club before they were a graphic novel. I love that it is a graphic novel! I honestly am going to start reading the series of this graphic novel. I'm so glad they made this a graphic novel!

Babysitter's club is a popular series that is mainly popular with girls. Girls will feel connected to the themes discusses throughout the novel and relate to some of the themes. The illustrations make the story fun and interesting to read.

This graphic novel is perfect for young pre-teenagers, I could especially see this book being used for pre-teenage girls. I would have loved a book like this when I was growing up. I was a slower reader and did not catch up to my grade level for reading until high school. Because of this, when all
Show More
my friends started enjoying The Baby-Sitters club books, I was not quite up to that level of reading. This graphic novel allows for learning readers to still have a fun, classic story to read but also gives images to help readers along the way. The book is fun and a great choice for students when doing a graphic novel unit. The importance of graphic novels and children learning to read using these pictures along the way is so important. Books like these help us understand that children are visually literate and can really find a graphic novel beneficial in advancing their reading skills. A fun read, especially for us baby-sitter club enthusiasts!

When Kristy has a flash of inspiration she decides to form a club with her closest friends to make a little money and help out parents in need; the Babysitter's club. Rich with youthful characters and all the tween drama you can handle, this graphic novel presents the classic book in a rich and
Show More
wonderful format that feels nature and true to the text.

This was not really my area of interests but approaching it in the graphic novel format helped and I would think that young girls in particular would love this. The artwork is cute and filled with lots of true-to-life detail as well as tons of angst ridden characters. The style is cartoony and approachable for younger readers yet the content still speaks to the older kids in the reading range.

For whatever reason I liked this book better than the third one (I read that one first). I don't know why. It kept me engaged, reminded me about what the original book was about and was fun to read. I would recommend this book to readers of The BSC series. 5 out of 5 stars.

Cute illustrations, lessons about friendship, and even a little self-reflection (Kristy will eventually learn some decorum).

I bought this for my 9-year-old niece but then thought it might be too old for her. So I read it. It's like watching any of the Nickelodeon or Disney
Show More
Channel pre-teen and teen shows. We can probably even thank the original books for the mere existence of those shows now.

My niece isn't really into reading, but I buy her books with hopes that eventually I'll find one she loves. Im not sure this is the one, but fingers crossed she's into it.
