Description

Marriage is the union of two people who arrive at the altar toting some surprisingly large luggage. Often it gets opened right there on the honeymoon, sometimes it waits for the week after. The Bible calls it sin and understanding its influence can make all the difference for a man and a woman who are building a life together. Dave embraces the reader with humor and honesty as he speaks about sin and the power of the gospel to overcome it. He opens the delightful truth of God's word and encourages the reader to see more clearly the glorious picture of what God does when sinners say "I do.".

Frankly I expected to read this book, like so many others that talk about marriage, and find some information to use in marriage counseling and retreats, since I am a pastor's wife. I didn't expect to be blown away by what I read and to have my own life so deeply impacted. Although the book is

ostensibly about marriage, in fact, in deals with your relationship to God. Unfortunately I never stopped to think about the fact that the real reason for marriage is to glorify God, not to satisfy needs, although we have always emphasized the fact that no one should enter marriage to be "made happy". As I read the book I was more and more convinced of my own sin and my need to repent. At the end of reading the book I turned to my husband and we a long time of sharing, prayer, tears and joy as we discussed the content of the book. If it had this kind of impact on us, who have a stable and joyful marriage, I can only imagine how it might help those who are struggling. I can't wait to share what I have learned from the book with others. I contacted a publisher here in Brazil and was thrilled to learn that it is being translated into Portuguese. We will be giving a copy to each couple that marries in our church.

Known to be one of the best reads on the subject of marriage from a Christ-centered perspective. Harvey roots the life of marriage in the life of faith and shows how the Gospel of Jesus Christ is meant to be the foundation for a good marriage.

Harvey deals very pointedly with the subject of sin -

something we don't always want to talk about - but something that is very necessary for any couple to see in order to truly grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Harvey makes the point that in order for us to truly appreciate and appropriate the power of the Gospel we must be very real about our sins and weaknesses.

This book is an excellent read for anyone thinking seriously about getting married or helping others who are married or on the road to being married.

This book comes with a very helpful "Study Guide" that greatly enhances and complements the book.
