Winnie is a ten-year-old girl who is extroverted, optimistic, exuberant, and (quite proudly) just a little bit weird. The book begins with March, When Winnie turns 10, and then proceeds through her year, one chapter for each month, and the concluding with March, when she is about to turn eleven.
I was pleasantly surprised. The book is a very quick and easy read, but there's some good kid-wisdom in each chapter. I look forward the the other books in the series, and seeing Winnie slowly work her way through adolescence.

Each chapter is really a short story. Apart from sharing characters, they only minimally connected. But each one shows Winnie slowly learning something, maturing, and being her exceptionally likeable odd self. I was pleasantly surprised.
