Fox was a sergeant in the 4th Royal Horse Artillery, part of the 7th Armoured Division (the Desert Rats). He was captured in the spring of 1941 and held in PG 78 Sulmona, He escaped after the Armistice and made it to Allied lines in January 1944. He describes life in the camp and then the help given by Italian contadini when on the run.
