Lieutenant-General Sir Philip Neame VC was the most senior PoW in Italy. Held at Villa Orsini, Sulmona, and then PG 12 Vincigliata, near Florence. Escaped at the Armistice and got away by boat from Cattolica with Air Vice-Marshal Boyd and Major-General O'Connor and arrived at Termoli in December 1943.
