Description
Daniel Riddiford was captured in North Africa at Sidi Rezegh in November 1941 and rejoined the Allied forces at Christmas 1943. In the interval he had been in six prison camps across three countries, changed his identity twice and made two attempted escapes. His third attempt, from the Austrian camp of Spittal, was successful.

New Zealander Riddiford MC (1914–1974) was a PoW in PG 47 Modena and PG 5 Gavi. He was awarded MC for escape from POW Camp at Stalag XVIIIA/Z at Spittal-on-the Drau, from where he reached Italy in four days. Later an MP 1960–72. Minister of Justice and Attorney General 1969–72.
