Lieutenant, 6th Queenʼs Own Royal West Kent Regiment. Captured in Tunisia, November 1942. Held at PG 66 Capua for five months, moved in April 1943 to PG 21 Chieti. Helped dig tunnel and hid with 12 others in the tunnel when the Germans evacuated the other prisoners after the Armisitice. Abortive attempt to get taken off by boat with his companion Jock Pennycock (with aid of SAS). Joined by Gordon McFall. Recaptured by Germans. Escape near town of Tollo and finally get through lines on 29 December (to west of Ortona). Illustrated with the authorʼs own drawings of various scenes.
