Local notes
Newman Robinson, a medical orderly with 10th SA Field Ambulance, was captured at Sidi Rezegh on 23 November 1941. He survived the torpedoing of the ship taking him from Benghazi (see also Joan Chambers, ‘For You the War is Over’ for the same incident) and after time in Greece was held at PG 85 Tuturano and PG 65 Gravina Altamura. As medical personnel were meant to be returned to their own side he was repatriated via Smyrna in April 1943. See also Robinson’s 1975 book, ‘In the Bag’, which uses material from this book.
