This book is about a family that goes "down home" to their Granny's house with the rest of their family to celebrate their African American history. Each child shares a tribute to their ancestors; well Lil Alan can not think of something that will accurately express how she feels. Then finally when

it is her turn she tells some touching stories about her ancestors and their history. I rate this book 5 stars because it gives a good background of African American History that students in the present may not be aware of. I can use this book in my content area to have my students think back to their ancestors and how that impacted their lives today.

A great book that gives us knowledge about African American history. I love how it introduces information in the form of a story told by a child’s father so that kids can relate to it. I would teach this in social studies/history to show students the strength of African Americans throughout

history.
