by Zack Whedon

Paperback, 2010

Description

Based on the Emmy Award-winning web series Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog, this collection of stories written by Zack Whedon (Deadwood, Fringe) chronicles some of the earliest adventures in the lives of archenemies Captain Hammer and Dr. Horrible. This anthology solves many unanswered questions left over from the show. For instance: What event inspired Dr. Horrible to become the world's greatest criminal mastermind? Why is Penny, the beautiful girl from the Laundromat, still single? How can you, the reader, be like blustering do-gooder Captain Hammer? And why is Horrible's sidekick, Moist, so... um... well, you'll find out!.

Witty comic book stories presented in unremarkable art.

Witty take on the making of a super villain. Favorite quote:

"Ow wow. You got a bunch of hippies to folow you. You've got all the powers of a hacky sack."

I liked it. Not the most deep of graphic novels, but gives a nice background to the origins of Dr. Horrible and other characters from the web musical. I especially enjoyed the story of Donnie Snow :) Those of you who are new to Dr. Horrible should see the Web Musical first - No actual spoilers, but
Show More
it does reveal my favorite surprise of the musical.

Really too slight to merit a proper review, but this was a cute little book, which managed to fill in some of the back story to Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog.

There isn't much to this. It caps out at about 70 pages, so you can read it in about five minutes. The stories are cute and somewhat funny. Fans will be happy to see the characters running around, but there's nothing deep and meaningful here.

This little comic book is awesome. It's so rewarding to see Dr. Horrible kicking ass. This is living proof that the world and themes of Dr. Horrible should be explored further.

I enjoyed the brief (and seemingly random) look into the lives of the Cpt.Hammer, Penny, and (of course) Dr.Horrible. It was a light, funny, and enjoyable read that complemented the sing-along blog well.

I actually read four of the stories online when Dark Horse had some available for free once a week or some such... but it's nice to have a hard copy. A good fleshing out of the 'verse.

Great backstory, good art. An excellent handful of moments spent reading this one.
