After a meandering first season where I frequently considered dropping the series, it found its footing, and got steadily better and better. By the third and fourth seasons, it was consistently great, with brilliant characterizations and plotting. I've not yet rewatched it -- my hope is that the

first season will feel better now that I'm invested in the characters -- but from my initial experience I'm very happy with how the show turned out. That said, it could have used one more season, as the various characters and plots all rushing towards the ending in the fourth season feel a bit sudden to me. Fingers crossed on the slim chance that some producer somewhere decides to adapt "Treasure Island" with the surviving characters and loose ends some time in the next decade.
