Description

Local notes

The sixteenth Norwegian hardcover collection of Thorgal albums contains the fifth Kriss de Valnor album, the fourth and fifth Louve albums, and the third Le jeunesse de Thorgal album, these being the following stories in Norwegian translation:

* Kriss av Valnor: Rød som Raheborg [Kriss de Valnor: Rouge comme le Raheborg]
Kriss and Jolan's newly cemented marriage alliance unites the Viking lands in resistance to the invading monotheist emperor of the south.

* Ylva: Kråka [Louve: Crow]
* Ylva: Skald [Louve: Skald]
Louve and Aarica continue to struggle to get along in Thorgal's absence, amidst the hostility of the villagers, the machinations of Aarica's suitor Lundgen and the vengeful wizard Azzalepston, who has now set the wolf Raisa stalking Louve in human form. Additionally, the consequences of the minor deity Vigrid's infatuation with Aarica are fleshed out and made to set up the next arc.

* Thorgals ungdom: Runa [Le jeunesse de Thorgal: Runa]
As the other stories in this sub-series, this is set after the stories of Thorgal and Aarica's childhoods in volume 7 and 14 (collected in the fifth Norwegian hardcover, 'Barnet fra stjernene'), but years before volume 1. In this story, Gandalf attempts to marry Aarica off, but a mercenary band lead by a shielfmaiden interrupts his plans. This is the first half of another two-parter, to be concluded in the next volume.

As in the fifteenth, the sixteenth volume of does not have editorial introductions and quotes from the writer or artist preceding each chapter. Additionally, this volume also does not include any articles or character profiles, except a simplified reading order flowchart and publishing order graphic on the final two pages.
