Description
Et spedbarn blir reddet fra en flåte på havet av vikinger i Nordlandet. De gir ham navnet Thorgal Ægirsson, etter tordenguden Tor og havguden Ægir. Etter hvert får han vite at han er etterkommer av folket fra legendariske Atlantis, og hans skjebne er sammenvevd med guder, halvguder og andre mystiske skikkelser. Thorgal selv har et ønske - å få leve i fred med familien sin, men hans barn bærer på en arv som fører også dem ut på oppdrag og et eventyr til fjerne himmelstrøk og andre verdener.

Upon returning home, Thorgal finds Aarica and the rest of the village are under some kind of mass hypnotism to do forced labour, and investigating finds Kriss of Valnor and their son behind it. Against his will, he and Jolan go with Kriss on a mission to the abandoned spaceship that brought his parents' people to Earth.

Imprisoned in the tyrant Harold Bluetooth's court, Thorgal and Aarica separately try to find a means of escape.

Fleeing Harold Bluetooth with his bastard son Svein Tjugeskjegg, now Thorgal's bloodsworn brother, they shipwreck on a cursed island bordering on the world of the dead.
