disadvantages are that these buttons are less likely to be washable (well discussed with methods for removing buttons easily!) and that some of these buttons may not stand up to wear as well.

The book assumes basic knowledge of crochet, machine embroidery, hand sewing, felting. Fair enough. Buttons are too small to be good beginner projects. The project directions are clearly written, and notes are made of points that need to be watched for success.
