Joe Biden and Barack Obama are back with another mystery to solve! We also get a new setting as this time we visit Chicago. Just as fun as the first book and I hope this won't be the last one.

Hope Rides Again by Andrew Shaffer

Meeting up with Barack Obama in Chicago for a forum on economics, Joe Biden excuses himself after Obama’s BlackBerry can’t be found and an internet track shows it to be where one of the event ushers said he had to go work after ushing. (Isn’t that what ushers

do? Ush?)

When Biden gets to the freight yard, it’s just as the usher (Shaun) is being carried out on a gurney with several shots piercing his torso. No witnesses, no suspects, no BlackBerry.

After a brief run-in with the mayor & his sidearms, Joe goes to Obama’s and they decide to find out who took the BlackBerry and likely shot Shaun. Mixing in with a church of ex-criminals, of all ages, and a hi-profile rapper, it’s a head swivel of who, what and where. Michelle cameos often and even Oprah sidelines.

With a series of twist, turns and topples, this duo uncovers crime, saves lives, chases a leprechaun, and has ice cream in the 1893 World's Columbian Exposition inspired Navy Pier Ferris Wheel. And all in one very tiring day.

Picturing their faces throughout adds to the humor. Best scene (and there’s a lot of competition) is the tour boat “old man Bloomin’ Onion” one. Classic!

Great dialogue, fun characters (even the bad ones) and snarky suspense wraps this up cool. Cool like a pair of aviator glasses. Joe Cool!

Just the pick me up I needed. All the Obama/Biden bromance, and mystery that I've come to expect from this series. I'm already hoping for a third book!

Joe and Barack are at it again. This time Joe travels to Chicago to attend Barack's economic conference and meet a local activist whose endorsement could help Joe's fledgling Presidential campaign.

But then Barack's Blackberry goes missing and Joe goes to the South side of Chicago in pursuit of the

thief, only to find him shot. The police want to chalk it up to gang activity, but Joe and Barack smell a rat. The result is an hilarious chase all around Chicagoland that eventually uncovers a complicated political conspiracy. This one is just pure fun'

With a setting in The Windy City, complete with Rahm and rampant corruption,
intrepid detectives Biden and Obama slide into action to pursue the shooter of a young colleague.

A lot of Chicago lore and locations, notably Valois Restaurant in Hyde Park, enliven the script
and create more entertainment

than the first book.

Political asides, sarcasm, and humor create HOPE for a 3rd volume featuring the demise of the current administration.

Joe Biden is on a stopover in Chicago to meet up with his old friend Barack and meet Caruso, an activist rapper who could give a boost to Biden’s potential run for president.

Biden meets Shaun Denton, a teenage member of Michelle Obama’s “Rising Stars,” when he meets up with Obama. When

Obama’s Blackberry goes missing, Denton becomes a suspect and then is later found, on the South side of Chicago, shot and barely alive. The police write it off as a gang shooting, but Biden and Obama think else wise. Denton had told Biden how Rising Stars had helped him turn his life around for the good in a serious way, and Biden believed him.

Biden and Obama combine forces, to find the shooter, recover the missing Blackberry and determine who is and who isn’t on the level in the corrupt city of Chicago. Keep in mind Chicago is in the middle of celebrating St. Patrick’s Day; a major event for all of Chicago.

It may seem a bit off to imagine Biden and Obama as detective, but that is part of the fun of the read. Not all goes according to plan as the story moves along. There are some laughable scenes and situations. Once again Steve, Obama’s bodyguard, is along to protect Obama and have some unusual experiences of his own.

I’m hoping there may be a third book in the future. If not, the two books have been a blast to read.

That this book, released in July 2019, six months before Joe Biden began his No Malarkey presidential campaign tour, opens with "What a bunch of malarkey" indicates some kind of very eerie witchcraft/sorcery/actual Joe Biden pseudonym shenanigans.
