My husband reads thrillers and did not like this. I don't but really enjoyed it. The subtitle 'Thrillersatire' says it all. The plot is totally ridiculous. A man is kidnapped and will only be returned to his daughter and friend if they can find ______ in time. The friend is the only person in the

world to have the special knowledge that might lead to the item needed. They follow various clues and false trails around Linz, with an ever growing group of people chasing them. Who is acting for the cardinal in Rome? Who is the man in black with a violin case acting for? Why is the old taxi with a brothel ad always there when they need him? As the tension mounts the plot gets more and more ridiculous.

In the end all the various threads get nicely tied up. As I said, I don't read thrillers, so I'm sure I missed a lot of the references. Many, of course, are to Da Vinci Code, and I am sure that the many improbable twists that story took were the inspiration to write this book. But this book never takes itself seriously.
