LOVE, LOVE, LOVE! This book is amazing. It not only teaches math but also has a great lesson about not crying over lost things. Children love the silliness about a cat wearing a shirt and the fun song that is incorporated. Anything that Eric Litwin writes is top-notch, but this is one of the best

he has ever done.

Pete the Cat is one cool cat. He will have your kids counting, singing and subtracting right before your eyes. The colorful pages and large writing is perfect for pre-school to 1st grade students.

Pete the cat is back; but this time, with his favorite shirt -- with four groovy buttons! Any four to eight year old is sure to

enjoy this interactive book. With a free song included, it is great for a sing along. Litwin shares to young children: not to “sweat the small stuff,” like having one of your buttons fall off of your favorite shirt or coat.

Get your singing voice ready and your math skills in check because Pete the Cat has returned for another round of counting and fun! This time Pete sings about his favorite shirt with four buttons. But along the ride he begins to lose his buttons. This story stresses the importance of letting things
Show More
go and moving on with life when something doesn’t go your way- a “don’t cry over spilled milk” kind of philosophy. Litwin’s melodic writing is paired impeccably with Dean’s bright and original artwork. Litwin is a best-selling author of not only the ‘Pete the Cat’ series, but many more exciting children’s books as well. He is also a popular children’s musician who never ceases to captivate children everywhere. From the very first page, this team of Litwin and Dean will have you humming to the beat and loving Pete the Cat and his groovy adventures!

This is a very cute book! This is a great book for young children. And to you who said that this book sends the wrong message....this book is for YOUNG children. No teenager who has a car and an ipad would live their life according to this book. This is a about a cat losing buttons. A button can be
Show More
easily replaced. I LOVE PETE THE CAT BOOKS!! I read them all the time to my grandchildren.

The favorite shirt of Pete the Cat is now missing a button. Does he panic? Does he cry? Of course not. He just adds another verse to his groovy button songs and invites little readers to join in. A charming interactive button book by a talented team.

Pete the Cat and His Four Groovy Buttons, created and illustrated by James Dean, with the story by Eric Litwin (2012) is an energetic tale about one of the best characters found in children's books today, Pete the Cat. Nothing phases Pete the Cat, and he proves it when he loses each one of his
Show More
groovy buttons.

Children will love keeping track of how many buttons Pete has lost and how many he has left (math), and the rhythm and repetition of the story make it a fun one to read out loud. You may even hear children singing Pete's song, "My buttons, my buttons, my four groovy buttons!" Grades PreK-2.

Pete loves his buttons on his shirt so much. He even sings a song about them. Then uh-oh one pops off! How many does he have left? This is a book that can be shown when teaching subtraction. After each button pops off it shows a subtraction problem on the next page.

I would use this book to introduce very simple subtraction.

This picture book is an excellent lesson for kids on how to not sweat the small stuff. As Pete the Cat goes through this story he ends up losing the groovy buttons on his shirt. But Pete doesn't care, he just keeps on singing his song. This is a fun read aloud that kids really get into and they
Show More
love singing the song with Pete.

Awesome picture book about how not to freak out if you lose your favorite things. Such a good message for PreK kids like my son. And for adults too! This book is one in a series and all are very good. It also has great sing along song/video that I found on YouTube.

"Buttons come and buttons go, but do we cry? Goodness no!" I love this addition to the Pete the Cat series. Again the rhythms and rhymes are way too cool and one cannot help but get groovy while reading this story. The overall message is "it's all good". And, no matter what happens in life it's
Show More
one's attitude that really counts.

The main idea of this story is cause and effect. I love this book! I like it because it is written as a song with a link to a website URL that plays it. I think its really neat that you can follow the book along as you listen to and sing along to the catchy song. I also like this book because it
Show More
encourages counting. By combining counting with a fun story, the reader is more apt to want to count and want to learn. Also, I like this book because the main character, Pete, is a cat, and therefore any person of any race or culture can relate to him.

A really cute book about Pete the cat and his favorite shirt. Easy read and very colorful and fun illustrations. Pete the cat loses buttons on his shirt one by one but he does not get upset, he keeps on singing.

I love Pete the Cat, and I had never heard of this book before I read your bibliography. I like that Pete has a counting book and he is one groovy dude. "MY BUTTONS MY BUTTONS MY FOUR GROOVY BUTTONS!" These books are fun to sing along to. The illustrations are fun too, very kid friendly. Also, did

Cute episode of Pete the Cat. He's proud of his buttons but they keep popping off. I like how subtraction is taught to children. Pete the Cat is just plain cool!

Another winner, cool rhyme, terrific message that things come and go...

This was my first Pete the Cat story I've read and I was excited about it! I think that this is an excellent book for parents or teachers who are trying to teach children subtraction and counting. Although the plot line isn't exactly compelling, I love the illustrations and the educational aspects
Show More
behind the story. This would be a fun way to get children to want to try out some subtraction.

This is a fun subtraction activity integrated into a fun, familiar book. I think this is a great book for pre-school and Kindergarten as students begin to work on math.

The rhythem of this book is so fun! Pete the cat starts out with four buttons on his shirt that just seem to pop off. However this does not make him sad, he just keeps on going! I like how this book turns something that might make kids upset into something that isn't really that big of a deal. It
Show More
shows kids to brush off the small stuff and keep on walking! I love at the end when Pete realizes that he has his belly button and that one is there to stay. Great book to use for counting skills and just to have fun with. This would be a fun book to also have students act out.

Pete the cat is a story about a cat who goes various places and looses a button in the process. He doesn't mind loosing his bottons because he still has some left. However at the end, he has no bottons left and he's still okay with it because he has his belly botton left.

Pete the Cat has four groovy buttons on his shirt, but one by one (do the math) they pop off. Does Pete let this bother him? No, he is one cool cat and finds a way to be happy with what he has, because buttons will come and go!
LibraryThing member nicholew
I love Pete the Cat and so do my students. I love how this book introduces early math concepts to kids. Teaching them how to make math sentences within a cute rhyme it a good way to teach kids new concepts. The repetition is also an excellent way to help teach them. I also like how he incorporates
Show More
the large numbers so kids can see them and then match them to the number of objects.

This is a fun book to read with very early elementary students. Can be used to teach subtraction, as each time Pete loses a button, one is subtracted from his total. The song can also be fun for kids.

I think the Pete the cat books are always great for young readers, the little songs are really fun, and there is always a cute little story line and brite colors. The book also tells the lesson of just moving on rather than letting little problems bog us down.
