(seldom more than two pages) in this book parables, anecdotes, short fables, or reflections. Many of the selections struck me as profound, evocative, and eloquent. Some struck me as boring or pompous. That probably says as much about me as about the quality of the writing, however. I mentally disengage when reading about Catholicism or the poet’s “oeuvre,” which are frequent topics here. Others may not. An occasional mental shrug isn’t a great price to pay for the frequent piece that you read once, think, “Wow, that’s IT exactly!” and read again. I’ll keep this book on my shelf so that I can refer to those eloquent passages again.

I found a new favorite poet. Milosz is a very insightful poet. I would highly recommend his poetry to teens and adults.
