Read how the three white mice mix yellow, red, and blue to make new colors. This book teaches color concepts in a fun way.

I gave this book four stars. This book is a sequil to the book Mouse Count. This book is about mice and how they discover how the primary colors can be mixed to make other colors. This book can be used to promote partnership and the concept of combining colors to make new ones. GREAT BOOK!!!!!

Three white mice are trying to keep away from cat and find themselves disguised on the white paper. But when they find three paint cups with blue, red and yellow paint they get a bit mixed up. Soon they are mixing colors and making new ones: yellow + blue=green. A fun story for early learners and

Walsh, E. S. (1989). Mouse paint. San Diego: Harcourt.
Ages: 2 to 4 years old
Three little white mice trick a gray cat by standing on a white piece of paper. One day when the cat is asleep, they find three jars of paint—one red, one yellow, and one blue. Thinking it is mouse paint, they bathe in
Show More
paint and drip puddles of color onto the paper. To their delight, the paints can be mixed to create more colors—red and yellow make orange; yellow and blue make green; blue and red make purple. The drying paint gets sticky, and the mice use the cat’s water bowl to wash away the colors. They learn to use the paint on the paper, making sure that some white is left so that they may hide from the cat.
Mouse paint teachers children about colors and the magic of mixing through the experience of three little white mice. Much like children experimenting with paint for the first time, the little mice have great fun and make a mess. The focus of the story is the colors, and the text makes sure that children follow the transformations through the mice’s surprised exclamations. The cut-paper collage illustrations are simple but boldly colorful, making the painted mice jump out of the page. Not much of a plot or character development but beautifully colorful little mice help children learn colors while they have fun.

Mixing colors is fun for kids. Take a little paint and dash it across the page and add another to make a masterpiece. This is a great book.

Cute book about a mouse helping to paint. The problem is that he spills the paint and ends up painting himself and everything around him. A good book for young kids to learn what happens when you mix colors.

Great for teaching kinders primary and secondary colors and comes in a bilingual edition!

A colorful picture book for beginner readers, “Mouse Paint” would be a great book to read before painting and mixing colors. Children would love to see the colors change before their eye.

This is one of my favorite books from when I taught in day care, the children love the bright colors, simple but effective artwork and the cute mice. This is also a great teaching resource for not just primary colors but basic math and science as well and can be used as such with older preschoolers

not just toddlers when dealing with cause and effect and basic addition.

Cute book with three mice who start with primary colors and then mix them to make secondary colors
Small book, but still good for storytime

Fantastic story about mixing colors. In this story, three mice spill paint on themselves which leads to the color mixing and creating new colors. This is a great story to use with younger children who are learning about colors and how they mix to make new colors.

Three white mice find paint one day. First they play with the primary colors themselves (red, yellow, and blue), and continue experimenting. Surprise! They find that primary colors mix to create secondary hues (orange, green and purple.)

This little picture book is pretty cute. It's about mice who discover some paint one day and decide to play in it and we get to see what happens when the colors start to mix.

I read this book when I was little and I really liked it. I loved how the mice were so mischievious but I didn't really

realize I was learning about mixing colors at the same time.

This book would be perfect to use to introduce young children to the wonderful world of art. It starts off with primary colors and then shows how when you mix them they become different colors. I can see this being great for a center.

I think this book would be great for an art class. It has the three primary colors and shows how they can mix and make different colors. It would be great for a painting lesson. I really like the pictures in it. It would also be good for students to get a little messy when reading this book.

Annotation: Three white mice dip themselves in mouse painting and learn how to mix colors.

Review:
This board book introduces the primary colors and secondary colors through a group of playful white mice. They see a red, yellow and blue pot of paint and each dip themselves into a color. Next they
Show More
dance in puddles, mixing red and yellow to make orange, etc. It is a useful book for introducing colors and color theory and would be great a part of an activity. I think this book makes a better first reader or picture book than a board book. I can’t see infants and toddlers having too much fun with the book for the drawings are colorful and cute, but not too exciting. Besides the mixing of paint nothing much happens, which is all right, but it could have been better if the cat had gotten into the mix. This book is appropriate for children ages 2-6.

Other Reviews: There were no other reviews I could access. Yet on the back cover one can see that his book has been noted by several children’s literature review magazines as being a special selection as there is a list of the books accolades. Publisher’s Weekly chose it as a best book of the year. I suspect that this book was not originally created in board book format and feel as a board book it misses the mark for the very young.

This book would be good for kindergarteners because it talkes about colors and how red and yellow make orange, yellow and blue make green, and blue and red make purple. So it would be really good to help kids learn their colors and the book does it in a cute creaive way.

Mouse Paint by Ellen Stoll Walsh follows three white mice who discover the world of color and mixing colors. One day the three white mice discover three jars of paint: red, blue, and yellow. As the mice each climb into a jar of paint and emerge, they leave puddles of paint. Since the puddles looked

fun, each mouse picks a color different from that they crawled into and dance in the puddles. By mixing colors they create new colors: orange, green and purple. They wash off the sticky paint and then paint much of the white page different colors, leaving some white because of the cat.

The use of a bold font, surrounded by white, and repetition make this a good choice for beginning readers. The simplicity of the text and opportunities for prediction are pluses.

Walsh’s cut-paper collage illustrations feature bold colors that contrast with the white background. The use of primary colors to produce secondary colors makes this a strong concept book. My favorite images include the cover, the mice hiding from the cat, mice climbing into and emerging from paint jars, each mouse dancing and creating a secondary color, the mice washing themselves, and the final image.

This is one of my favorite preschool read-alouds which I have often used in storytimes. It could be used with a color mixing activity as a concrete concept to extend the story. I love how the white mice use the white paper to hide from the cat, and when they use the cat's bowl for their bath. This is highly recommended for school and public library collections. For ages 1 to 6, colors, science, experimentation, prediction, mice, adventure, cats, art, read-aloud, and fans of Ellen Stoll Walsh.

This is a fun book for children to read and learn about the different colors and how we can mix colors to make a new color. The story starts off with three white mice who hang out on a piece of white paper so that the cat cannot see them. One day they find three jars of paint and while the cat is

sleeping they decide to play in the paint. They accidently mix some of the colors and realize that two different colors can make a whole new color! I like this book because it would be a great book to use in the classroom to teach children about different colors. This book would be great for grades 1-3.

Mouse Paint is about three mice who discover bottles of paint and spend the painting themselves and everything else.

I liked this book it was really creative and taught a lesson about mixing colors. I would use this in my classroom to teach about what colors are made when two are combined.

I think

this appropriate for grades kindergarten-2nd grade. The theme of the book is the mixing of two colors and that like many things in life, things are discovered by accident.

This a a great book to help teach young children about mixing colors. There is also a funny story to go along with learning about the color mixing that keeps the children's attention and also keeps them guessing what will happen next! A great book for preschool aged children.

This books helps children understand what happens when you mix paint together. You come up with a new color.
