Description
Lillian Fuchs has been lauded as one of the first great American violists. Based upon biographical sources, contemporary newspaper accounts, and numerous conversations with her, this book draws together oral and written information to create a biographical portrait which also sheds light on the history of American music in the 20th century, when talented women had to struggle fiercely to survive in the face of male dominance.

This biography of a viola player is pretty thorough on the subject's career events, but seems like it is sketchy on personal life. Everything about her marriage and raising kids could be gathered from a few chapters and fit into a single paragraph of less than a dozen sentences.
