Description

Amarylis Coltraine had recently transferred to the New York City police force from Atlanta, but she's been a cop long enough to know how to defend herself against an assailant. When she's taken down just steps away from her apartment, disarmed, and killed with her own weapon, for Eve Dallas, the victim isn't just one of us.

I don't know how J.D. Robb/Nora Roberts does it, but she consistently writes novels with just the right mix of emotion, sexual tension, wry humor, and mystery to keep me riveted every darn time! "Promises in Death" had me flipping the pages as fast as I could read to try and figure out 'who done
Show More
it' and feed my Roarke fix.

This time the death is personal...not because the vic is a cop, but because she's the cop that Li Morris (coroner extraordinaire) was seriously involved with, and Li's pain is difficult for Eve to face because he's one of 'hers'. When the clues reveal ties to an old enemy of both Eve and Roarke, it seems too good to be true...and it may well be.

The mystery was intricate and well-plotted and I didn't figure out the bad guy til the author led me to it. There were twists that I didn't expect, and they all linked together in a tightly woven plot. Eve and Roarke were 'mag' as were the rest of the supporting cast which seemed to include all of Eve and Roarke's friends from earlier books. The scenes regarding the bachelor party and bridal shower had me laughing out loud and wishing I were there to watch.

I don't want to give too much away, but I will say that this is my favorite 'in Death' so far...at least until the next release!

A little slower in pace than some of the others, still interesting but the mystery didn't have the urgency I prefer, though as always I enjoy "watching" Eve work it. I'm beginning to lust after Roarke I have to admit, such a guy *sigh*

One of the better recent entries in the In Death series. We get to catch up with a lot of the continuing characters and even get a few for fun scenes like the bridal shower for Louise. Enjoyable book.

It's an interesting entry in the In Death series. I was let down a bit by the ending; there was too much book left after you knew all the guilty parties and all the motives, but at the same time, the denouement, when they've arrested the bad guys and are questioning them, seemed to be much too

short.

My first foray into an Eve Dallas novel. Eve is a 21st century hard-ass detective in NYC in 2060. Another officer is murdered, and Eve is on the case. Even though Max Ricker is in jail, the ties lead back to him. For the most part I am enjoying the story and may read Dallas again.

Amaryllis Coltraine transfers to the New York City police force from Atlanta, GA, and begins a relationship with chief medical examiner Li Morris. When Amaryllis’s body is found in the basement of her apartment building, Eve Dallas is on the case, determined to find Amaryllis’s killer for two
Show More
primary reasons: as a fellow cop, Eve take this killing personally and will not let the killer get away, and she wants to do this for Morris, a good friend. Eve’s usual “force” is around her, along with husband Roarke, who discovers a connection between Amaryllis and a long-time nemesis. Although this man is incarcerated off planet, Eve suspects he’s found a way to taunt them through this murder.

The In Death series remains one of the bestselling series in America due to the intriguing characters Robb has inserted into these books. In Promises in Death, Eve is showing signs of maturing and mellowing. She’s more involved in her marriage, more attuned to Roarke and his needs. She even treats some people with respect and manages to hold her tongue at times, something she has had trouble with in the past. Although this is a nice change, some readers may long for the more cynical, jaded Eve.

This has got to be one of the few .. maybe the only Eve Dallas stories where our stalwart Lieutenant is not involved in a blood spilling fight at least once in the story. The only blood spilt is from a car accident she was in, and even that was a minor cut above her eye.

But the grit and
Show More
determination to find the killer is still there, and is ramped up a level because the victim is a fellow cop, and the girlfriend of their chief medical examiner.

Regardless of the reduced violence in this book, the process by which the killer's identity is unraveled as well as the complex string-pulling of the evil mind behind the murders is still fascinating, and one of the traits of JD Robb's 'In Death' series.

Yet another good gripping read in the series.

I loved this book. It was sad but at the same time had some real laugh out loud moments. I like that Eve seems to be growing up. I think the fact that her dreams are changing will prove really significant in the future. I am starting to wonder however how much longer they can string the series
Show More
along. Not that they are running out of murder plots but simply that the interpersonal dimension that I love so much is changing. Not for the worse just changing and that is changing the tension in the books.

Interesting at the beginning, but the middle sagged because we learned early on who the ultimate culprit was. Only needed to guess the minor fish. Lost its impact.

I keep going back to this series.......for years! Entertaining quick read.

Amarylis Coltraine is a police officer and is dead. She's in a relationship with one of Eve's friends, as Eve starts to dig what she finds is more questions than answers and ties that link back to Alex Ricker, the son of a man Eve clashed with before. A man determined to make Eve pay.

It's pretty
Show More
typical Eve Dallas stuff, some of the twists were quite interesting, some of it did strain credulity but didn't quite break it for me. An enjoyable visit with characters that can be enjoyed but nothing terribly memorable.

This series is best when Lt. Dallas is involved with cases that she has a personal stake in. You can feel her pain when she has to tell her friend about the death of his loved one. I also loved how the rest of her crew jumped in to help. The most entertaining part was how all the ladies give their
Show More
input in the case. I laughed out loud during a few scenes where Eve gets so uncomfortable with the messiness of life around her.

Promises in Death is not as interesting a read as some earlier books in the series. While it is difficult to guess the identity of the perpetrator early on in the story, the steps Lieutenant Eve Dallas to solve the homicide case is not as compelling. Perhaps because there does not seem to be
Show More
sufficient clues for me to guess the killer's identity. There's not even enough for me to say "Oh, I missed that!".

Another important component of the story is the fun in watching Eve balance her police work with her marriage and friendships. But the jokes seems to have dried up or at least run stale. Everything seems to have already been done. How can being matron of honor with most of the work being done by her partner compare to balancing her own wedding and a murder case ? Too bad, but it maybe time for me to stop following the series.

Robb - always a pleasure, never a chore. Eve investigates the murder of a fellow cop, sweetheart of a colleague; the murder linked to one of her previous high-profile cases. Robb writes with a perfect blend of suspense and humanity, a varied cast of realistic, believable and interesting characters

Morris' main squeeze, Amarylis Coltraine, also a detective for the NYPSD, is brutally murdered in the basement of her own apartment building - obviously by someone she knew. Dallas and Peabody try to console Morris and find the killer - all the while being dogged by Coltraine's own squad - who want

to take over the investigation.

A young woman, a police officer, is killed in her apartment building. The ramifications keep Lt. Eve Dallas hopping.

This mystery/romance/science fiction series is still solid after umpteen books. Don't start here, start at the beginning.

I enjoyed this book. Its my first of the in death series. It certainly will not be my last :)

I do feel ot was kinda slow paced for me. I like a lot going on to keep me occupied. otherwise I liked it

Once again, Nora Roberts, writing as J.D. Robb in this 28th book of the In Death series, manages to keep the excitement going. The relationship between Eve and Rourke is still going strong, although they don't fight as much in this book, thank goodness! The mystery is well written and interesting
Show More
with enough twists to keep you guessing. An old nemesis pops up, as happens a good bit in these stories. Promises in Death is another high quality read in the series.

A strong addition to the series. We get to know Morris and a few other secondary characters a lot better and it was fun to read about Eve's reactions to wedding planning for a friend. I can't get enough of Eve, Roarke, and all their friends and this mystery doesn't disappoint.

The next installment of the Eve Dallas series. Eve and her various cohorts are on the hunt for a cop killer. As usual, for fans, this book does not disappoint.

This is the 28th in the "In Death" series by J D Robb. The author did an excellent job of keeping me on the edge of my chair. Although I figured out the actual killer early on, there were enough red herrings in the mix that I couldn't be sure i was right. This is an emotional read for those of us
Show More
who have followed the series since day one as the girlfriend of one of Eve's "family" is murdered. Robb does a good job of expanding on the idea that in homicide, there is more than just the murder victim. As usual, Robb has added the interested side story of Eve phobia of all things "girlie" with her usual humor. The scenes about Eve and the bridal shower are hilarious.

A friend is hurt, a cop is dead, Eve has been threatened. Lt. Eve Dallas does not take kindly to threats. She is determined to break this case and that is a promise. This one in the "In Death" series had it all. I really find Eve's terror at the smallest everyday things quite amusing. I'm usually
Show More
pretty good at fingering the bad guy but this one came as a complete surprise. Another very good read from J.D. Ro

A great entry in the series. Morris has been one of my favorite minor characters, and it was great to see him featured prominently in this one. I wish she'd bring Roarke's family more regularly into the mix, or find out something new about Eve's family. But even without those, this one was still

very good.

When a cop is murdered in her own apartment building with her own weapon, Eve Dallas is called on the scene to investigate one of her own. Death is never easy, but when it effects the ones you care about in your line of work and personal life...it takes its toll. Will Eve's friends ever be able to

come back from this and do their job again.
