I know Patterson is lending his name to the books and is helping launch new writers, but this one is too predictable, too trite.

Review:
This is Patterson at the top of his game. If this is in fact him writing. He has been churning them out to the tune of one NEW novel per month with the help, I am sure, of his writing partner's.
But never the less, this feels like it's his, all the twists, turns at the end of each chapter are here. And you get not one serial killer but two!
And a plot that keeps you flipping pages.
Really enjoyable. Recommended.

As I read this book, I kept saying to myself that this is the James Patterson I remember and love. This book is, by far, one of his best in a long time and way overdue. I have practically given up on him because all the books by James Patterson that I have read recently are only mediocre. I was
Show More
beginning to wonder if he had just “written himself out”. However, he proved he still has some of the old verve in him with this book. In this book, John O’Hara of an earlier book is looking for the person who has killed at newly married couples. Then, in the middle of all that, he becomes involved, working with another female FBI agent, in the search for a killer who is out to kill the “John O’Hara’s” in the country, but no one know how the killer is choosing his victims or when or if the killing will end. Neither plot is very tightly connected, but the authors have managed to somehow make them interconnected and exciting. This book follows so many twists and turns that I am dizzy trying to remember them all here. These make it difficult, if not impossible to figure out just who is doing the killing and how the two agents will entrap him/her. Of course, as expected, there is a romantic magnetism between Agent O’Hara and the female agent that only adds to the storyline. This is a great summer read and one you will not want to miss. I just hope this book means that James Patterson is back to his old self. I recommend it to anyone seeking a good, solid mystery.

I liked this easy to read murder mystery and how the two stories are intertwined. Some of it I found predictable and some of it unbelievable. The law and mental health aspects are timely, but these were the areas that I found somewhat unbelievable. If you like Patterson, then you'll like this book.

COMMENTS: This was a big improvement for me from the last Patterson book (The Mistress). This had 2 storylines going that kept me interested -- both motivated by warped & psychotic "love". First was the story of honeymoon couples that were being murdered and secondly was the killing of men named John O'Hara around the country. John O'Hara, a father & widower is working on the Honeymoon murders when Agent Brubaker comes to him on the other case. Wouldn't mind seeing these 2 in another outing.

I didn't notice until after I read this that Patterson has book out called "Honeymoon." Second Honeymoon appears to be a stand-alone story (if any characters carried over, I didn't notice any references to prior activities.

In this book, an FBI agent on administrative leave when his wife's killer is

released from prison is contracted as a PI to investigate the murder of a billionaire's son and his new wife on their honeymoon. Soon, other honeymooning couples meet gruesome ends. Meanwhile, another FBI agent pursing another serial killer case comes into the picture. Her serial killer is targeting people with the same name as the first agent (John O'Hara).

The unlikelihood of two completely unique serial murder cases intersecting via these agents is a little far-fetched, but the story has plenty of action, and is well-written and entertaining. I'll probably read Honeymoon soon, and expect it will be more of the same, but in a good way.

A walk down the aisle, a gorgeous hotel, a drink on the beach . . . death... Newlyweds Ethan and Abigail Breslow are having the time of their lives on an idyllic honeymoon in the Caribbean. After a loving morning in bed, they head into the sauna, where the last thing they see is a pair of

eyes-their murderer, watching them die. When the bodies are discovered, FBI Special Agent John O'Hara flies to the Caribbean to investigate. O'Hara is assaulted by the sunny, sparkling world of newlyweds-don't they know there's no such thing as happily ever after? That's what he learned when his wife was brutally killed two years ago. And now her killer is about to be released on parole. As O'Hara gets closer to catching the murderer, all he can think about is the end of his own marriage-and how sweet revenge would taste.

This is a typical James Patterson book, fast paced, danger at every turn and the mystery and/or killer is found in a matter of hours. There isn't too much depth to the story. Mr. Patterson seems to have gone away from developing the characters and just goes for the action and the bang affect. Don't

get me wrong, he's one of my favorite authors and I've read almost everything. But I miss the days of his earlier work. Not sure if it's because he's collaborating with so many different people and churning books out like crazy or what. But this is a good beach read and a book that can be read in a day then soon forgotten.

1.5*

Book two in the “Honeymoon” series featuring FBI agent John O’Hara. This time there are two serial killers that he’s tracking. One is targeting honeymooners, and the other is killing men around the USA.

I’ll say this about
Show More
Patterson (and his co-writers): He knows how to craft a thrilling plot that keeps the reader turning pages (or changing CDs). Sentences are short. Paragraphs are short. Chapters are short. It’s easy to say “just one more page / chapter” and before you know it you’ve been up all night reading.

On the other hand, the writing is simplistic, and the characters are straight out of central casting. The two serial killers didn’t really work for me. Seems that Patterson & Roughan couldn’t come up with enough material for either of these storylines, so they combined them to give us a sufficiently long book.

The audiobook was capably narrated by two talented voice artists: Jay Snyder and Ellen Archer. Unfortunately for them, the producers chose to add cheesy “mood music” that just drove me crazy. Lost a half-star there.

Fun read that can be finished on a long flight. The villains were tropes relative to some of his other works, but it was still a fast and thrilling read.

Well, it kept me reading, so that in itself makes it a good book. Otherwise it was formulaic. It was a light read, which is what I was looking for. Stock characters and reactions.
