Description

FBI agent Drex Easton is relentlessly driven by a single goal: to outmaneuver the conman once known as Weston Graham. Over the past thirty years, Weston has assumed many names and countless disguises, enabling him to lure eight wealthy women out of their fortunes before they disappeared without a trace, their families left without answers and the authorities without clues. The only common trait among the victims: a new man in their life who also vanished, leaving behind no evidence of his existence . . . except for one signature custom. Drex is convinced that these women have been murdered, and that the man he knows as Weston Graham is the sociopath responsible. But each time Drex gets close to catching him, Weston trades one persona for another and disappears again. Now, for the first time in their long game of cat and mouse, Drex has a suspect in sight. Attractive and charming, Jasper Ford is recently married to a successful businesswoman many years his junior, Talia Shafer. Drex insinuates himself into their lives, posing as a new neighbor and setting up surveillance on their house. The closer he gets to the couple, the more convinced he becomes that Jasper is the clever, merciless predator he's sought--and that his own attraction to Talia threatens to compromise his purpose and integrity. This is Drex's one chance to outfox his cunning nemesis before he murders again and eludes justice forever. But first he must determine if the desirable Talia is a heartless accomplice . . . or the next victim.… (more)

This was really good. I have a long history with Sandra Brown. I am not even sure how many years it has been since I first tried her work. I haven't read them all yet but I have quite a few under my belt. I have yet to be disappointed and look forward to getting my hands on her new work every year.

It is safe to say that I went into this book with fairly high expectations and I pleased to say that they were all met. This was a highly entertaining story that was hard to put down at times.

Agent Drex Easton has spent years focused on finding a single killer and he thinks that he may have finally tracked him down. He goes undercover and moves into the garage apartment next door to his suspect, Jasper Ford, and starts working to put the pieces together. Jasper lives in a large home with his much younger wife, Talia. Drex likes Talia immediately and may actually feel a little something more than that.

This book did a lot of things really well. I thought that the mystery was very well done. I wanted Drex to get his man but I wasn't quite sure if Jasper was the right guy. I thought that all of the pieces fell into place at just the right time to really keep the momentum of the story moving forward. The characters were very well done. I liked Drex and Talia right away. I also thought that the pair of agents helping with the case, Gif and Mike, were both wonderful characters that added a lot to the story.

I liked the romance between Drex and Talia for the most part. I thought that they had great chemistry together and really enjoyed their interactions. I really did wish that Talia had not been married though. Granted she may be married to a serial killer and her marriage might be built on lies so maybe it is okay? I do think that the romance worked despite my issues.

I would highly recommend this book to others. I found this book to be quite the page-turner with some pretty big surprises along the way. I cannot wait to read more of Sandra Brown's work!

I received a review copy of this book from Grand Central Publishing.

For almost all of his adult life, FBI Agent Drex Easton has had a singular mission: the relentless pursuit of serial killer Weston Graham. For some thirty years, the con man has inserted himself into the lives of various wealthy women, each of whom who would mysteriously disappear at the same time

as the plundering of her bank account. Then he, too, would vanish, only to reappear as someone new, ready to begin his deadly con game once again. Having discarded dozens of aliases, Graham is currently masquerading as Jasper Ford.

And Drex Easton has found him.

But there are problems. First, he has only his gut feeling that Jasper is indeed the psychopathic con man he seeks. He holds absolutely no proof. Second, he’s overpoweringly attracted to Jasper’s much younger wife, Talia. And he doesn’t know if she’s a potential victim or her husband’s accomplice.

Now that Drex is finally closing in on his quarry, the cat-and-mouse game begins in earnest. Drex is determined to stop Jasper before he takes the life of another deceived woman. Will the elusive con man slip away as he has so many times before, or has Drex finally come to the end of his quest?

The plot is an intriguing one, with the cat-and-mouse chase central to the telling of the tale. Drex is an unorthodox agent, carefully balancing his efforts to capture Jasper against his need to stay clear of William Rudkowski, the FBI special agent determined to put an end to Drex’s involvement in the hunt for the crafty psychopathic killer. Since several of the characters hold significant secrets, unexpected reveals build suspense and keep the pages turning; tension mounts as the story unfolds and readers discover that everything they think they know has changed and nothing is as it seems.

Highly recommended.

Drex Easton is working undercover to track the serial killer that murdered his mother, Lyndsay Cummings. He believes the man Weston Graham, aka Daniel Knolls, aka Jasper Ford is the murderer, and he will do whatever he can to bring him down. When he and his teammates, Gif and Mike track Ford (his

current alias) to Charleston, Drex pretends to be an author working on a novel. He manages to rent a garage apartment next to Ford and his wife, Talia Shafer. Naturally, Talia is a beauty and Drex is immediately taken with her. When Talia and Jasper's friend, Elaine, is found murdered, the stakes climb higher.
This is a tale of tracking a serial killer with a bit of romance thrown in, the romance happens in all Brown's novels.
Not too heavy, not too dark, but a satisfying thriller with some sexy romance scenes.
