Description

The very first Hellblazer collection, Original Sins is available in a new edition that includes John Constantine's appearances in Swamp Thing. This is the first of a series of new Hellblazer editions starring Vertigo's longest running antihero, John Constantine, England's chain-smoking, low-rent magus. This first collection is a loosely connected series of tales of John's early years where Constantine was at his best and at his worst, all at the same time. Includes Swamp Thing #76-77.

I decided this year to try and catch up on some of the comics I missed over the years. This was one of the ones I had read a bit here and there and kept meaning to go back and start from the beginning. I am glad I did since I really enjoyed the first volume.

Collecting the earliest John Constantine stories from Hellblazer(and Swamp Thing). The stories here are horror, true, but they are also political, in a good way. John's character quickly establishes itself as a manipulating former punk turned mage who is haunted by the ghosts of the actions of his

past. Hard drinking, hard smoking - but trying to help humanity - even if his reasons aren't the most altruistic.

Great stuff. A classic in comics horror.

Ridgway is spot on with his gritty, sketchy inks... I'm on volume 2, and instantly noticed the absence.
