We made a special trip to Munro's (my local bookstore in Victoria, BC, is owned by Alice Munro's ex-husband, do you guys know that about Victoria, LibraryThing? It's beautiful in there) to get this book because Emmett was demanding an Itsy Bitsy Spider book. This one was cute and the extended
Show More
verses, which I am usually doubtful of, gave us further insight into the spider's life and times, and I liked it on the whole for its spider's eye perspective but then we left it on the bus and now it's gone:( But my kid has lots of other books and a roof over his head, don't cry for us!

This story expands on the short version of the song we all know. After the first "verse" the spider tries to climb up many other obstacles: A wall but the fan blew him down, a water pail but a mouse knocked him over, a rocking chair but a cat pushed him and up a tree but he fell down next to the a
Show More
little girl. He didn't give up, the spider climbed the tree again where he spun a web and basked in the sun.

I liked this expanded story of the song I knew growing up. On the very last page of the book, there is actually the score of the song, along with all of the verses. I enjoyed the colorful illustrations that portray the spider as cute and cuddly. My favorite part is the very end where the spider is lying in his web wearing sunglasses.

I would do a nursery rhyme unit and include the Itsy Bitsy Spider. We would learn the song and sing together. You could also do a lesson on never giving up and even though you may have to try many times, you can still succeed at what you want to do. You could have the children reflect by writing a story of their own based on the story's principle.

The spider climbed up the wated spout, a pail, a chair, tree, and did not fall but eventually made a beautiful web in the tree.

This is a nice turn on the original itsy bitsy spider because it does not end so soon. This spider keepson going after a few battles with a cat and a mouse it gets to rest
Show More
in a new nice web.

In the classroom i would use this book to introduce poetry because it is one that they are boiund to like because they can sing along with you. I would also use this one to show how neat spider webs are!

This is the long version of the song we learned as a child. Every time the spider crawled up something, he would encounter a problem. After he escapes the "problems," he tries to climb something else. At the end of this story, the spider is basking in the sun.

I really like this book. It has cute
Show More
pictures that go along with each verse. The ending is the best!

I would read this story and then sing the song with the class.

The spider could climb something (the wall, a bucket, a chair, etc.), and something would cause her to fall. Then she would get back up and try again. At the end, she rested in the sun.

The expression on the spider's face every time she fell was so cute. I loved the pictures; some of them had glossy
Show More
pieces that shimmered when the page was in a certain light. I like how the author used all of the verses, not just the one that kids know.

With a younger class, the students can sing the song while doing the motions to it.

This story is the traditional story of the Itsy Bitsy Spider but it is followed by many other things the Itsy Bitsy Spider climbed up. Then at the end of the story the Itsy Bitsy Spider does not fall back down and spins a web in the tree it climbed.

I just wanted to sing along to this whole book and
Show More
it made me think of when i was little and would get so excited about singing the Itsy Bitsy Spider.

Make up a new place together in class that the Itsy Bitsy Spider might climb and write and illustrate our own page for the Itsy Bitsy Spider book.

This is a fun tale of the itsy bitsy spider but has twist to the traditional story line. In this story the spider goes on many adventures and continues to try to climb up various walls. The illustrations in this story of colorful and detailed which makes it fun to flip through the pages and admire.

This book was one of my favorites to read. I loved all the animation and tales that were just a little different from the story we all know.
I think that this book would be great for younger children. You could have them all sing the itsy bitsy spider song and then read the book out loud. Next you could have the children point out what was different to them.

The Itsy Bitsy Spider tried to accomplish several feats during the story to which he failed at first due to outside circumstances but the little guy never gave up and always accomplished what he sat out to do.

I really like this book to illustrate how one should never give up no matter how many
Show More
times you fail at something. Kids need to learn that you will not succeed at everything their first time you try it and that you will fall down in life but if you are a successful person you will pick yourself up and try again until you accomplish your goals.

I would use this as a language introduction to action words. I would ask the children if they can point out the action words in each scenario. I would also use this to show how children need to be resilient and never give up on something just because they don’t accomplish it their first try.

Summary:
The Itsy Bitsy Spider is a clasic everyone loves with this book it takes it to the next step. The Itsy Bitsy Spider goes on many adventures throught the day.

Personal Reflection:
I think this is a very good book. It not only has the orginal version of Itsy Bitsy Spider it takes it to a whole
Show More
new level. This is a great sing along book.

Extension Ideas:
1. I would have the students create their own spider web with sting and sticks. Then talk about why spiders make webs and how they make them.
2. We would talk about the rhyming aspect of Itsy Bitsy Spider and how words rhyme.

The traditional nursery rhyme "The Itsy Bitsy Spider" with added verses that kids never heard. I thought it was cute and it was nice to hear a different version of the rhyme. I would use this book in the pre-K to 1st grade to intruduce or reintroduce nursery ryhmes.

The spider climbed up the waterspout, the kitchen wall, the yellow pail, the rocking chair, and the maple tree. Everytime he tried something always made him fall. The spider kept trying to climb the maple tree until it finally reached the top. At the top of the tree he could relax and soak up some
Show More
sun.

I liked this book because it showed the spider never gave up. The spider was going to make it up the tree no matter what. The pictures were also very colorful. My daughter makes me sing this song to her every time I wash her hair.

In the classroom, we could act out all the different parts of the spider's adventure. We could also make rain makers out of paper towel rolls and beans or rice. We could then use them as we sang the isty bitsy spider song.

The spider attempted several times to crawl up several items, but was knocked down on every attempt. The last attempt the spider finally climbed up a tree without getting knocked out of the way and was able to spin her web. Once the spider was done spinning her web she relaxed in the sun.

I can
Show More
relate to this book because many times I get frustrated when I attempt things and either get my ideas shot down or I can not figure out how to do something. This book reminds me not to give up, but to keep trying and eventually I will be successful.

This book can be used when children get frustrated when they are learning how to read or the first time they have to learn how to do math and they just don't get it. Teach the students that some things will be hard for them, but with practice and persistence they will eventually get it.

This book was a wonderful surprise the first time I came across it. Its colourful illustrations and extended version of this nursery rhyme delights and entertains. I bought it first to share with my young daughter and then for my school library.

In the Itsy Bitsy Spider, a little spider goes through many obstacles to get where he wants to be.

Growing up one of the songs I was taught was the Itsy Bitsy Spider. I was also shown some actions I could use that went along with the song.

In the classroom, I could teach the children what I was
Show More
taught. During this time, the children and I could also learn various facts about spiders.

In the Itsy Bitsy Spider, a spider attempts to crawl up many different items. Through several attempts the spider fails to get to where it wants to go. On the final attempt the spider crawls up and tree and relaxes in the sun.

Everyone gets frustrated more than once in their life, but if they stick
Show More
with it they will finally achieve what they are trying to do.

In the classroom, you could use this book in introduce an activity where the students are to color a picture of the spider trying to crawl up many objects to get to its web.

Summary:
This book is about a spider that is always climbing on things and while he is things always goes wrong and the spider gets knocked off. This doesn’t stop the spider though because he just wait’s a little bit and climbs right back up. At the end of the book she climbs up a tree, makes a
Show More
web and just relaxes where nothing goes wrong.

Personal Reaction:
I read this book as a child and now that I am older and I read it I look at it completely different. While I was reading it I thought to myself “if that would have really happened the spider would have been dead.” But I used to look at it as the spider had no luck at all.

Classroom Extension Ideas:
1. I could ask the kids to tell me about an experience when they came into contact with a spider and what they saw it do.
2. I could show them the little hand movements that go with the song and we could all sing it out loud.

Summary:
In this book a tiny spider goes on many adventures trying to find the perfect place to build her web. Every time she starts to make progress on the journey, she gets knocked down and has to start all over. The tiny spider’s perseverance finds her a perfect place to build her web in a
Show More
tree. In the end she builds her web and is able to finally relax in the warm sun.
Personal Reaction:
It was neat to find more lyrics to this popular children’s song. I sing “The Itsy Bitsy Spider” to my own children and they love that I have more words to sing in the song since I have discovered this book. They love that she finally gets to have her happy ending.
Classroom Extension Ideas:
1. In the classroom, I can do a whole lesson plan based on insects. I can start with spiders and have the students bring in pictures or find magazine articles about different kinds of spiders.
2. This book is a great example of determination. I can read it to the class and have them explain how the spider is demonstrating the term determination. Then I can have the students tell me some of their own experiences when they had to use determination in a situation.

Summary: A spider tries to climb a water spout, but the rain comes and the spider falls down. He then tries to climb the spout again. He also climbs the kitchen wall, yellow pail, rocking chair, and many other things.

Personal Reaction: I actually learned more of the song from this book. All i knew
Show More
was the water spout, i didn't realize there was more to it.

Classroom Extentions:
1. children could draw the spider climbing up anything they choose.
2. children could write anoter line to the song, adding something they would want the spider to climb.

This is a really cute story. The Itsy Bitsy Spider tried to accomplish several obstacles during the story in which he failed at first but he never gave up and always accomplished what he sat out to do in the end. This story is basically saying, just because you don't accomplish something the first
Show More
time, maybe not even the second time, don't give up keep trying, you will soon get it.

Summary:
In this traditional literature book, you read along as you remember the same old nursery rhyme that you've heard since you were born. Then shockingly, the author puts a twist to the story. Soon, the itsy bitsy spider is not only climbing up the water spout, but he's also climbing up the
Show More
kitchen wall, a chair, a yellow pail, and a tree. After many failed attempts, the spider finally reaches his goal and enjoys the sunlight at the top of a tree.

Personal Reaction:
I love this story and I love the cool twist the author brought on a traditional piece of literature! I think it teaches the children about perserverance and motivates them to keep trying to reach their goals no matter what obstacles they might face.

Classroom Extension Ideas:
1. In an art lesson, I would have the children make spiders and webs out of pipe cleaners. They could also decorate them as they please.

2. To go along with their spiders and webs, I may have my students make up a new ending to "the itsy bitsy spider". Just where did the spider go after he made it to the top?

Traditional Fantasy

This was a story about a spider. She climbed up the waterspout, the kitchen wall, a pail, a chair, and a tree. Throughout her adventure, she fell a few times but never gave up. She made it to the top and spun her web. The itsy bitsy spider just wanted to rest in the sun.

I related
Show More
to this story to life. There are so many obstacles that I have had to overcome. I know and understand that life is tough and that I have to keep striving for my goals. If this little spider can overcome the mouse, the rain, and the cat then I am sure I can succeed in life. This just goes to show that anyone can do anything they set their mind to.

In the back of this book, they have the itsy bitsy spider song. We would sing the song and what all happened in the book. We would make up our own motions to go along with the book. We will also make little spiders out of pom pons and pipe cleaners.

Summary: This is a tale about a little spider who climbs different obstacles. Every time she gets close to the top of whatever she is climbing (waterspout, kitchen wall, yellow pail, rocking chair, and finally a maple tree) something goes wrong and she falls back down. The little spider never gives
Show More
up and eventually she reaches her goal and builds her web in the maple tree.

Personal Reaction: I love this book, but I've known the song forever. I learned the song in preschool and it just stuck. This is a good story about perseverance, and never giving up on reaching your goals. Love the guts, and determination of this little spider.

Classroom Extension Ideas:
1. Can be used as a teaching tool, about never giving up and determination.
2. Sing the song and do the motions together as a class.
3. make their own spider webs out of yarn and spiders from pom pom balls and hang them around the classroom.

This book is just like the song, " The Itsy Bitsy Spider" that we all learned as toddlers. The only change is there are more items that the spider crawls up such as a rocking chair! This familiar rhyming song book interests and engages children no matter what the age.

I would have this book in my
Show More
classroom because it teachers about spiders where spiders might be, teachers rhyming and repetition, and may help children think of other things the spider may crawl up and fall off of. I think this book is appropriate for children ages 2-5.

Whether it's climbing up a spout, a kitchen wall, a pail or up a rocking chair, "The Itsy Bitsy Spider is knocked down and keeps getting up. This one little spider is determined not to give up! This book is a great sing-along for toddlers and pre-schoolers, they will get a kick out of hearing about
Show More
all the adventures this one spider endures. The children can make spiders and spider webs, or draw/color pictures to go along with the story.
