Stumbles very significantly compared to _The Good Earth_ and _Sons_. Worth reading as the conclusion to the trilogy, but not as much more than that -- and stupidly open-ended.

Not to mention how it goes from Water Margin to 20th-century politics in two point five seconds flat...

This is a wonderful trilogy, I cannot praise it enough. I want to know what happens next to Yuan and Mei-ling. Maybe they moved into the big city and helped the poor there.
