This was my first book by T.R. Pearson, and I enjoyed reading it; however, I felt that the plot taking place in NY city was way over the top. The parallel plot in Hogarth, Virginia, on the other hand, was elegant and vibrant. The author's descriptions of the South - the landscapes, the characters,

the food and wine (scuppernong, anyone?) had a charm and authenticity about them that was lacking in his New York descriptions. I basically felt that the gangster plot happening in New York sort of cheapened the novel - it had a certain John Grisham flavor to it that made it feel like a TV movie...

The language kept my interest all the way through the story - Pearson definitely has a unique style. Also, his main characters are complex enough to feel real.

I will certainly read another of T.R Pearson's novels if they come my way - "Blue Ridge" had enough spunk to spark my interest in his authorship.

I kept picking this up and putting it down and consequently, it took me a long time to get through this book -- so much so that I kept losing the storyline. It was entertaining while I was reading but I didn't love it.

Easy, fast read, and I read it just about straight through. But was very disappointed that the two stories interleaved were never connected. And neither story satisfactorily solved. Some good characterization.
