I don't usually read romance, historical or otherwise, but I really enjoy Emma Wilde's books. She doesn't have the unfortunate tendency of writing cookie-cutter sentences and overly repetitive love scenes, or creating a boring plot with a vapid female protagonist and the same old "rich, handsome

nobleman" male protagonist. In "Lessons from a Scarlet Lady", not only does she have some good observations in Lady Rothburg's advice, but the main couple is actually already married and the duchess, Brianna, wants her husband to fall in love with her and be happy with her alone. In the two books I've read by Ms. Wilde, I've noticed that she likes to have two romances going at once in a story. I wish that the secondary romance of the Duke's younger brother and Rebecca had been better developed, and that her parents (particularly her father) had played a larger role. It would have been nice to read about their conversation when he went to ask to marry her, rather than reading it secondhand while he told Rebecca of her father's consent. Despite it's flaws, "Lessons from a Scarlet Lady" is more memorable and interesting than most romances I have read. I look forward to Emma Wilde's next book in September.
