Murder on the Orient Express is one of Agatha Christie's best mystery novels. This is certainly the best adaptation of any of her mysteries and the cast can never be bettered: Albert Finney as Hercule Poirot, as well Wendy Hiller, Lauren Bacall, Ingrid Bergman (who won an Oscar for the

performance), John Gielgud, Richard Widmark, Sean Connery, John Gielgud, Vanessa Redgrave, Michael York and Anthony Perkins. Fabulous film.

Whodunit on a train.

It's amusing and fun when the plot is moving, which it often isn't. It works well as far as the mystery is concerned, but not so well dramatically. The fact that those are two separate things pretty well sums up why I'm not an Agatha Christie fan.

Controversial opinion time:

Poirots in order of best to worst:
1. Finney’s portrayal in Murder on the Orient Express
2. David Suchet’s excellent performance in the delightful BBC series
3. Peter Ustinov’s Poirot

Last: Branagh’s whiskered detective
