This is a very detailed account of the rise of American airlines with explanations of how the financing was organized and biographies the individuals who brought the dreams to fruition. I think Whitehouse included descriptions and specs of every plane an airline owned and flew. Some accidents are

mentioned if they affect the history or development of a plane or airline, but he does not dwell on them.

In the case of some planes, he gives us a history of the airplane manufacture as well and how they achieved success or not. Boeing's rise in passenger aviation is especially well documented. Many black & white photo's included.
