I love Victorian sensation novels and this is an excellent example of the genre - lots of emotion, misunderstandings and heartbreak in a Victorian world where trains crash traumatically, heroes dauntlessly fight the evil Afghan with sabre gleaming and the villainous are beset with the frustrations,

jealousy and ambition that seems very familiar to modern readers. ME Braddon knows how to tell a story and this is still very readable indeed.. Show Less
