I'm a huge fan of Bette Davis and I found this book entertaining and informative. Davis was interviewed by the author near the end of her life and was incredibly candid - reading this book was often like sitting in on an intimate chat. There are also lots of anecdotes from other significant

Hollywood figures, although my enjoyment may have been enhanced by my prior knowledge of Davis and her contemporaries. I don't often read biographies, but I could not put this down.

Chandler spent the last 10 years of Davis' life interviewing her as well as actors, agents, husbands, directors, etc. to put together this biography of Davis. Davis asked Chandler to write this book. While we hear Davis' views of colleagues and incidents, Chandler usually provides the other side of

the story from the people involved.

An interesting side light for me, was Chandler inserting brief plot summaries of each film Davis made in the text at the point where we read Davis' description of the making of the film. There is an even more detailed description of each film with complete cast & crew names at the end of the book.
