Det er faktisk ret svært at forklare hvor lidt man egentlig kunne bruge en mainframe anno 1970 til. Man kunne editere en linienummereret fil ved at gå rundt i den linie for linie og rette ting. Jubii. Og så kunne man sende sine programmer afsted som batch-jobs og måske gå en tur hen til linieskriveren og få operatøren til at sende ens output ud på den dyre printer og give det videre, så man kunne begynde at kigge på hvad man havde fået lavet af fejl.
