extremely dry and very little happens in the story till near the end. The narrator of the novel is a lady musician who is Cannes but goes to Paris for attention by a guy who says he can cure her bad health. The guy has a sister named Lara who becomes very friendly with the narrator. There is a lot of talk about religion, some of it of interest but while Lara is a Catholic this it is not a Catholic novel. It is very talky and since I nearly always finish a book I start I did not quit reading this book though it was a drag There are good English novels written in he 19th century but this is not one of them, Show Less
